Disassembly [12/2013 - ]: Procedure
- REMOVE ENGINE COVER JOINT
- REMOVE SPARK PLUG
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3
- REMOVE OIL FILLER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the oil filler cap sub-assembly from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.
- Remove the gasket from the oil filler cap sub-assembly.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side)

- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side)
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (for Exhaust Side)
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (for Intake Side)
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3
- REMOVE PCV VALVE (VENTILATION VALVE SUB-ASSEMBLY)
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2
- REMOVE VENTILATION CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 8 bolts and 2 nuts.
*a Bolt *b Nut - Remove the ventilation case sub-assembly by prying between the ventilation case sub-assembly and cylinder block sub-assembly with a screwdriver.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder block sub-assembly and ventilation case sub-assembly.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the 8 bolts and 2 nuts.
- REMOVE SEPARATOR CASE
- REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE
- REMOVE WATER INLET

- REMOVE THERMOSTAT
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5
- REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE ENGINE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY

- REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING
- REMOVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2
- REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
- Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley and loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt. Further loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt until 2 or 3 threads are screwed into the crankshaft.
*a Hold *b Turn - SST: 09213-54015
- SST: 09330-00021
HINT:
SST (crankshaft pulley holding tool) fixing bolt part No.: 91551-80650 (2 pcs)
- Using SST and the crankshaft pulley bolt, remove the crankshaft pulley and crankshaft pulley bolt.

HINT:
Apply lubricant to the threads and end of SST.
- SST: 09950-50013
- Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley and loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt. Further loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt until 2 or 3 threads are screwed into the crankshaft.
- REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE SPARK PLUG TUBE GASKET
- REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET RH

- REMOVE NO. 2 CAMSHAFT BEARING
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT HOUSING STUD BOLT NOTE:
If a camshaft housing stud bolt is deformed or its threads are damaged, replace it.
- Using an E8 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the stud bolt from the camshaft housing sub-assembly.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP SETTING RING PIN NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the camshaft bearing cap setting ring pin unless it is being replaced.
- Remove the 10 camshaft bearing cap setting ring pins from the camshaft housing sub-assembly.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT HOUSING STRAIGHT PIN NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the camshaft housing straight pin unless it is being replaced.
- Remove the 2 straight pins from the camshaft housing sub-assembly.
- REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY

- REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 30
- REMOVE CYLINDER BLOCK WATER JACKET SPACER
- REMOVE OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

- REMOVE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG
- Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket from the oil pan sub-assembly.
- REMOVE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 11 bolts and 2 nuts.
*a Nut - Insert the blade of an oil pan seal cutter between the oil pan sub-assembly and stiffening crankcase assembly, cut through the applied sealer and remove the oil pan sub-assembly.NOTE:
- Be careful not to damage the stiffening crankcase assembly contact surface of the oil pan sub-assembly.
- Be careful not to damage the stiffening crankcase flange.
- Remove the 11 bolts and 2 nuts.
- REMOVE OIL STRAINER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE NO. 1 OIL PAN BAFFLE PLATE
- INSPECT CRANKSHAFT BACKLASH
- REMOVE ENGINE BALANCER ASSEMBLY
- INSPECT NO. 1 BALANCE SHAFT THRUST CLEARANCE

- INSPECT NO. 2 BALANCE SHAFT THRUST CLEARANCE

- REMOVE STIFFENING CRANKCASE ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 7 bolts.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the stiffening crankcase assembly by prying between the stiffening crankcase assembly and cylinder block sub-assembly at the places shown in the illustration.
*a LH Side *b RH Side NOTE:Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder block sub-assembly and stiffening crankcase assembly.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the 7 bolts.
- REMOVE STIFFENING CRANKCASE STUD BOLT NOTE:
If a stiffening crankcase stud bolt is deformed or its threads are damaged, replace it.
- Using an E5 and E8 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 3 stud bolts from the stiffening crankcase assembly.
- REMOVE STIFFENING CRANKCASE RING PIN NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the stiffening crankcase ring pin unless it is being replaced.
- Remove the 2 ring pins from the stiffening crankcase assembly.
- REMOVE REAR ENGINE OIL SEAL
