Remove/install steering knuckle - AR33.25-P-0400EW

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Detach front wheel and tire assembly    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP40.10-P-4050EW
2 Remove wheel hub (1)   AR33.20-P-0310SX 
3 Remove brake cover plate (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking bolt, cover panel to brake caliper support  
4 Remove suspension strut (3) from steering knuckle (4) with CODE 489 (AIRmatic (air suspension with continuous adjustment damping)) AR32.25-P-1017EWA
    Except code 489 (AIRmatic (air suspension with continuous adjustment damping)) AR32.25-P-1017EW
5 Detach left front axle rpm sensor (L6/1) or right front axle rpm sensor (L6/2) from steering knuckle (4)   AR42.30-P-0712EW
6 Detach tie rod (5) from steering knuckle (4)   AR46.40-P-0200-02CW
    NOTES
Turn in steering onto lock and check for correct seating of SPECIAL TOOL puller on the tie rod (5). If seating is incorrect, damage to the steel contact ring of the tie rod (5) occurs and this results in destruction of the tie rod (5).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten the nuts of the bracket (9) after installing the supporting strut (10).

with CODE 460 (Canada version)
with CODE 494 (US version)
without CODE M005 (4MATIC)
Remove bracket (9).
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, tie rod to steering knuckle *BA46.40-P-1001-01N

7 Detach upper ball joint from steering knuckle (4)   AR33.20-P-0427EW 
REFER TO COMPONENT MODIFICATIONS Modified cone for upper ball joint to steering knuckle MODEL 212.### ## up to 001281 without CODE M005 (4MATIC) BT33.25-P-0400-01EW
8 Remove torque strut (6) from steering knuckle (4)   AR33.15-P-0160EW 
9 Remove steering knuckle (4)    
SHORT-CIRCUIT Check     
10 Check elastomer bearing of cross strut (7) If damaged, see:

Replace cross strut (7).
 
      AR33.15-P-0161EW 
11 Check follower joint If damaged, see:

Replace upper ball joint.
 
      AR33.20-P-0427EW 
12 Check rubber boot and ball joint of torque strut (6) for signs of damage If damaged, see:

radius rod (6) as indicated.
 
      AR33.15-P-0160EW 
13 Install in the reverse order
