Remove/install Lanchester balancer - AR03.20-P-1100CD

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove timing case cover   AR01.40-P-8000CD
2 Remove oil pan ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166.0 AR01.45-P-7500GQA
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 172 AR01.45-P-7500SLK
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 204, 207, 212 with TRANSMISSION 711
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 204, 212 with TRANSMISSION 722 (except 722.9)
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 207, 218 with TRANSMISSION 722
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 212 with TRANSMISSION 724.2

ENGINE 651 in MODEL 204, 212 only 4MATIC AR01.45-P-7500OMD

3.1 Set piston on cylinder 1 with the counterholder to TDC (TDC) ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221
except CODE B03 (ECO Start/Stop-Function)
IMPORTANT Turn engine at the crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until to the 0 0 mark on the belt pulley/vibration damper matches the marking on the cylinder crankcase.

3.2 Set piston on cylinder 1 with a suitable tool to TDC (TDC) ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221
with CODE B03 (ECO Start-Stopp-Funktion)
IMPORTANT Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the 0° marking on the belt pulley/vibration damper coincides with the marking on the cylinder crankcase.
 
4 Remove screw/bolts (1) on Lanchester balancer (2) Tightening procedure for Lanchester balancer
IMPORTANT Slacken screw/bolts (1) stepwise in the reverse order of the tightening procedure.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, crankshaft bearing cap *BA03.20-P-1001-01K 
5 Carefully remove Lanchester balancer (2) from cylinder crankcase    
6 Mark crankshaft bearing shells (3) relative to Lanchester balancer (2) and remove crankshaft bearing shells (3) and thrust plates (4)    
INSPECT Check     
7 Check Lanchester balancer (2), shaft bearing and gears for Lanchester balancer (2) by visual inspection for wear and damage IMPORTANT Replace Lanchester balancer (2), shaft bearing or gears for Lanchester balancer (2) if necessary.
Only replace Lanchester balancer (2) in combination with the cylinder crankcase.
 
8 Check crankshaft bearing shells (3) and thrust plates (4) for wear and damage IMPORTANT When replacing the crankshaft bearing shells (3) and the thrust plates (4), the crankshaft bearing shells (3) and the thrust plates (4) must be assigned.
 
Assign crankshaft bearing shells AR03.20-P-4360-01CD
Crankshaft bearing clearance (when new) *BE03.20-P-1001-04A 
INSTALLING Install     
9 Mount crankshaft bearing shell (3) and thrust plate (4) IMPORTANT Lubricate crankshaft bearing shells (3) and thrust plates (4) before insertion.
Observe marking on crankshaft bearing shells (3).
 
10 Lock Lanchester shafts (5) in the basic position IMPORTANT To do this: SPECIAL TOOL Place assembly tool on the Lanchester shafts (5).

11 Check screw/bolts (1) on Lanchester balancer (2)   AR03.20-P-4351-03T
Crankshaft bearing cap bolts *BE03.20-P-1001-01F 
12 Place Lanchester balancer (2) on crankcase IMPORTANT Check fitting sleeve (6) is correctly seated.  
13 Tighten down screw/bolts on Lanchester balancer (2) Tightening procedure for Lanchester balancer
IMPORTANT Lubricate screw/boltts (1) on Lanchester balancer (2), on thread and on the bolt head contact surface and tighten down bolts (1) as per tightening procedure.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, crankshaft bearing cap *BA03.20-P-1001-01K 
14.1 Remove assembly tool from Lanchester balancer (2) ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221
except CODE B03 (ECO Start-Stop-Function)
IMPORTANT To do this place crankshaft at 30° after ignition TDC.
Place engine on crankshaft with a SPECIAL TOOL Turn counterholder in direction of engine rotation.

14.2 Remove assembly tool from Lanchester balancer (2) MODEL 651 im ENGINE 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221
with CODE B03 (ECO Start-Stop-Function)
IMPORTANT To do this place crankshaft at 30° after ignition TDC.
Turn engine at the crankshaft using a suitable tool in direction of engine rotation.
 
15 Check basic setting of balance shafts   AR03.20-P-3637CD 
17.1 Turn crankshaft with a counterholder and check for ease of movement ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221
without CODE B03 (ECO start/stop function)
IMPORTANT Turn engine in direction of engine rotation.

17.2 Turn crankshaft with a suitable tool and check for ease of movement ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 221
with CODE B03 (ECO start/stop function)
IMPORTANT Turn engine in direction of engine rotation.
 
18 Install oil pan ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166.0 AR01.45-P-7500GQA
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 172 AR01.45-P-7500SLK
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 204, 212 with TRANSMISSION 722 (except 722.9)
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 204, 207, 212 with TRANSMISSION 711
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 212 with TRANSMISSION 724.2
ENGINE 651 in MODEL 207, 218 with TRANSMISSION 722

20 Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, read out DTC memory and erase if required    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS AD00.00-P-2000-04A
