Remove/install timing case cover - AR01.40-P-8000CD

2 Remove engine from front axle carrier ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166

3 Secure engine to assembly stand Passenger car engine assembly stand  
4 Remove flywheel/drive plate ENGINE 651 in MODEL 166, 172, 204, 207, 212 (except 212.098/298), 218, 221 AR03.30-P-8001CD

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check pilot bearing in flywheel for damage. The flywheel should be replaced if there is noisy or rough running or wear.

5 Remove cylinder head cover   AR01.20-P-5014CD
6 Remove screw/bolts (1, 2) IMPORTANT Pull screw/bolts (2) upwards as far as it will go and fix with cable tie into the first position.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, cylinder head to timing case cover *BA01.30-P-1001-01V 
7 Unclip vacuum hose (3) from the retaining clamps    
8 Remove electrical connection (4) from bracket and disconnect    
9 Remove screw/bolts (5) and lay fuel lines down to side    
10 Remove radial shaft sealing ring from timing case cover INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace radial shaft sealing ring. AR03.20-P-3063CD
11 Remove screw/bolts (6, 7, 8, 9) on timing case cover Bolt plan for timing case cover *BA01.40-P-1001-01X 
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Follow the bolt plan.
Screw/bolt, timing case to cylinder crankcase, cylinder head and oil pan top section

12 Pry off timing case cover carefully using a suitable tool NOTES Pry off timing case cover very carefully. The cylinder head gasket will be damaged otherwise.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The pilot bushing must engage in the cutouts in timing case cover.
 
13 Clean contact surfaces on cylinder crankcase, oil pan and timing case cover   AR01.00-P-0050-01A
NOTES Do not clean sealing surfaces with sharp-edged or tipped objects.
The sealing surfaces can get damaged otherwise.
Loctite 7063 cleaning spray (150 ml)

Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
14 Apply sealant to sealing surfaces on timing case cover    
NOTES Notes on sealant path for timing case cover   AH01.40-P-1000-01CD
IMPORTANT Observe sealant path. Loctite 5970 sealant *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
SPECIAL TOOL Application gun Figure
15 Install in the reverse order    
16 Check engine oil level, correct if necessary NOTES The engine oil level must lie between "Min" and "Max".
Engine damage can occur otherwise.
 
17 Connect diagnostic system; read out fault memory, delete if necessary    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
18 Carry out engine test run and check engine for leaktightness around timing case cover
