6 Set piston on the cylinder 1 to ignition top dead center (TDC) IMPORTANT Rotate engine at crankshaft in the running direction. The ignition TDC marking of the belt pulley must be flush with the stay on timing case cover. AR05.10-P-6858SXI

15 Pull out slide rail bolts (7) at cylinder heads   AR01.30-P-5800-04TI
    IMPORTANT In the case of a screw/bolt on the right next to the oil filter housing in the cylinder crankcase, this should be removed analog to the slide rail bolt (7) in the cylinder head.

16 Remove screw/bolt (3) of tensioning rail (3.1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bearing pin for tensioning rail *BA05.10-P-1003-01L 
17 Pull out tensioning rail (3.1) from the bottom    
18 Remove left exhaust camshaft ENGINE 642 in MODEL 222 AR05.20-P-6992LFD

IMPORTANT Mark timing chain (1) and sprocket for easier assembly in area (A) in color.		 AR05.20-P-6992SXI

19 Allow timing chain (1) to sag down into the timing case    
20 Remove screw/bolt (4) of slide rail (4.1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bearing pin for slide rail *BA05.10-P-1002-01L 
21 Push tensioning rail of oil pump drive (8) upwards against spring force INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Push the tensioning rail of the oil pump drive (8) fully against the spring force prior to installation and insert from the bottom in the timing case.  
22 Pull out slide rail (4.1) from the bottom    
23 Unscrew screw/bolt (5) from slide rail (5.1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bearing pin for slide rail *BA05.10-P-1002-01L 
24 Pull out slide rail (5.1) downwards    
25 Remove screw/bolt (6) from slide rail (6.1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bearing pin for slide rail *BA05.10-P-1002-01L 
26 Pull out slide rail (6.1) from the bottom    
27 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
28 Check and correct oil level ENGINE 642 in MODEL 222 AR18.00-P-3035-01LFD

NOTES Vehicle must be horizontal and standing on its wheels.
This prevents measurement errors.
IMPORTANT Check engine oil level about 5 min. after switching off warm engine.
