Remove/install camshafts - AR05.20-P-6992SXI

REMOVING Removing     
1 Remove cylinder head covers Model 207, 212, 218 AR01.20-P-5014OGE
    Model 221 AR01.20-P-5014SXI
2 Remove camshaft sprocket from camshafts (4) IMPORTANT The camshaft sprockets remain in the engine. Fix camshaft sprocket with cable ties to the timing chain. AR05.20-P-6040OM
3 Remove set of hold-down devices (5) SPECIAL TOOL Hold-down device kit Fig 2
4 Remove camshaft holder (6)    
5 Remove camshafts (4)    
INSPECT Checking     
6 Inspect ease of operation of compensation element. IMPORTANT Press down compensation element by hand using a suitable pin. Do not use a steel tool. Apply pressure to compensation element with normal manual force. If the pressure is too high, the valve opens and the compensation element falls slightly. The compensation element is not faulty.
IMPORTANT If one compensation element drops much more than others without application of high pressure then this must be replaced. See: ↓
 
    Remove/install hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements
IMPORTANT If several compensation elements drop, inspect oil gallery and oil feed drillings of the compensation elements for impurities.

INSTALLING Install     
7 Lubricate compensation elements and camshaft bearing points    
8 Insert the camshafts (4) IMPORTANT The markings (2) on the camshaft sprockets are to assist with installation and must be precisely aligned opposite each other when used.  
    Left cylinder head *BE05.20-P-1001-01J 
    Right cylinder head *BE05.20-P-1002-01J 
9 Install camshaft holder (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.30-P-1004-01S 
10 Attach camshaft sprocket to camshafts (4)   AR05.20-P-6040OM
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA05.10-P-1004-01L 
11 Remove cable ties    
12 Install cylinder head covers Model 207, 212, 218 AR01.20-P-5014OGE
    Model 221 AR01.20-P-5014SXI
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

13 Check for oil leaks with engine running
