Audible Warnings Circuit Check

  1. Put key in ignition switch. With ignition off, open and close driver's door. With ignition on, open and close driver's door. With key in ignition, ignition in off position and driver's door open, the ignition key reminder should sound at a rate of 150 chimes per minute. If ignition key reminder does not operate as specified, go to KEY-IN-IGNITION CHIME INOPERATIVE  or KEY-IN-IGNITION CHIME ALWAYS ON  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  2. Unfasten driver's seat belt buckle. Turn ignition on for 7 seconds, and then off. Fasten driver's seat belt buckle. Turn ignition on again. With buckle unfastened and ignition on, fasten seat belt reminder should sound at a rate of 50 chimes per minute for 6 seconds. Fasten seat belt reminder will not sound with ignition on and buckle fastened. If fasten seat belt reminder does not operate as specified, go to FASTEN SEAT BELT CHIME INOPERATIVE  or FASTEN SEAT BELT CHIME ALWAYS ON  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  3. Sit in vehicle and fasten seat belt. Apply parking brake and start vehicle. Firmly depress brake pedal and shift transmission out of Park. Note chime function. Release parking brake. Place transmission in Park and turn vehicle off. When transmission is shifted out of Park with parking brake applied, parking brake reminder should sound at a rate of 200 chimes per minute. If parking brake reminder does not operate as specified, go to PARKING BRAKE CHIME INOPERATIVE  or PARKING BRAKE CHIME ALWAYS ON  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  4. Test drive vehicle on a long, straight stretch of road. Place turn signal switch in left or right signal position and drive for at least 3/4 of a mile (1.2 km). The turn signal reminder will begin to sound after a distance of 3/4 of a mile. Reminder will sound with each pulse of the indicator light in IPC and continue to do so until signal switch is returned to OFF position. If turn signal reminder does not operate as specified, go to TURN SIGNAL CHIME INOPERATIVE  under SYMPTOM TEST.
  5. Ensure headlight switch is in OFF position. Open and close driver's door. Turn headlight switch to ON position. Open and close driver's door again. Turn ignition on, and open and close driver's door once again. Turn headlight switch to OFF position. With ignition switch in OFF or ACC position, the driver's door open, and the headlight switch in PARK or ON positions, the headlight on reminder will sound at a rate of 200 chimes per minute until headlight switch is returned to OFF position. If headlight on reminder does not operate as specified, go to LIGHTS ON CHIME INOPERATIVE  or LIGHTS ON CHIME ON WITH IGNITION IN ON POSITION  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
