Parking Brake Chime Always On

  1. Perform BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. Go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to DLC and check for PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If DTCs are set in PCM memory, go to appropriate DTC repair procedure in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If DTCs are not present, go to next step.
  3. Select BCM DATA DISPLAY INPUTS and monitor PARK BRAKE SWITCH input signal status. Apply and release parking brake. If PARK BRAKE SWITCH status is off with parking brake released, go to step  6 . If PARK BRAKE SWITCH status is on with parking brake released, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off and remove scan tool from vehicle. Disconnect BCM connector C2. Release parking brake. Connect test light between BCM connector C2 terminal A2 (Light Blue wire) and battery positive voltage. See Fig 1 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light is off, go to step  6 . If test light is on, go to next step.
  5. With test light connected, disconnect parking brake switch connector. Switch is located on parking brake assembly. If test light is off, go to step  7 . If test light is on, go to step  8 .
  6. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Turn ignition off. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Apply parking brake and close all vehicle doors. Start engine. Firmly depress brake pedal. Shift vehicle into Drive, noting chime operation. Release parking brake, noting chime operation. Shift vehicle into Park and turn engine off. If chime sounded with parking brake on and vehicle in drive, and turned off when parking brake was released, go to step  9 . If chime sounded with parking brake on and vehicle in drive, and when parking brake was released, go to step  10 .
  7. Replace parking brake switch. After repairs, go to step  11 .
  8. Repair short to ground in Light Blue wire between BCM and parking brake switch. After repairs, go to step  11 .
  9. System is okay. See AUDIBLE WARNINGS CIRCUIT CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Recheck operation and go to step  11 .
  10. Replace and reprogram BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. After repairs, go to next step.
  11. Turn ignition off and reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Connect scan tool to DLC and check for BCM DTCs. If BCM DTCs are present, go to appropriate DTC diagnosis and repair procedure in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. If no IPC DTCs are present, system is okay.
