Key-In-Ignition Chime Always On

NOTE: BCM will sound the key-in-ignition reminder chime if one or more of the following conditions occur:
  • Key is NOT inserted in the ignition switch.
  • Driver's door is closed.
  • Ignition switch is on.
  1. Perform AUDIBLE WARNINGS SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. If chime operation is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Ensure instrument panel dimmer switch is off. Turn ignition on and lower driver's window. Ensure all doors are closed. If courtesy lights are off when doors are closed, go to next step. If courtesy lights are on when doors are closed, go to step  7 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on and monitor KEY-IN-SWITCH input status. Turn ignition off. Note status while removing key from ignition switch. If scan tool indicates status as NO with key removed from ignition switch, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate status as NO with key removed from ignition switch, go to step  5 .
  4. Ensure key is removed from ignition switch. Open and close driver's door. If BCM sounds the key-in-ignition reminder chime, go to step  9 . If BCM does not sound the key-in-ignition reminder chime, go to step  8 .
  5. Remove key from ignition switch. Disconnect BCM connector C2. Connect test light between battery voltage and BCM connector C2 terminal A1 (Light Green wire). See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light is off, go to step  4 . If test light is on, go to next step.
  6. With test light still connected, disconnect ignition switch connector C2. If test light is on, go to step  11 . If test light is off, go to step  10 .
  7. Key-in-ignition reminder is always on due to malfunction between BCM and driver's door lock ajar switch. Repair circuit as necessary. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  8. System is okay. See AUDIBLE WARNINGS CIRCUIT CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Recheck operation and go to step  12 .
  9. Replace and reprogram BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  10. Replace ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH/LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  11. Repair short to ground in Light Green wire between BCM connector C2 terminal A1 and ignition switch connector C1 terminal "D". After repairs, go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition off and reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Connect scan tool to DLC and check for BCM DTCs. If BCM DTCs are present, go to appropriate DTC diagnosis and repair procedure in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. If no BCM DTCs are present, system is okay.
