Function requirements, general

Exterior lights (ABL), general

The exterior lights control all the safety and comfort-relevant functions of the front, side and rear lights of the vehicle.

IMPORTANT When the transport mode is active, only the basic functions of the exterior lights can be used. Functions such as the LED Intelligent Light System or Adaptive Highbeam Assist (with code LG2 (LED Intelligent Light System)) are deactivated during transport mode. Detailed information on the operating state of the transport mode is given in the separate function description "Energy management, function".

Function sequence for switching off the exterior lights

By switching off the exterior lights, the on-board electrical system load by the active standing or parking lights actuation is reduced.

IMPORTANT Discharge of the on-board electrical system battery (G1) is reduced.

The low beam is already switched off with "terminal 15 OFF".

The standing lights may be switched on because the low beams have been manually switched on, because of the auto on/off driving lights or manually via the illumination switch. If the standing lights have been activated because of the manually activated low beams or the automatic driving lights, and the driver's door is then opened with the terminal status "terminal 15 ON", the standing lights are switched off.

As soon as the energy management detects that the starting capability of the engine is impaired, the standing light is switched off.

IMPORTANT Vehicles with surround lighting

If the "Ambient illumination" function has been activated via the radio

(Audio/COMAND), it automatically switches itself on after the engine is turned off.

The standing lights remain on for the configured period from the point at which the last door or the liftgate was closed. The "Ambient illumination" function is described in detail in the separate document "Headlamp switch-off delay (SWA), function".

A differentiation is made between the following versions of the front headlamp in accordance with the vehicle equipment:
