Function requirements, general:
- No overvoltage or undervoltage
- On model 447.6/7
"Outer OFF delay function" and "Locator lighting (AFB)" function activated in instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1).
The light sensor (B38/1) (with code LA2 (automatic driving lights)) or the humidity sensor/light sensor/rain sensor (B38/2) (with code JF1 (rain sensor)) or the rain and light sensor with additional functions (B38/5) (with code HH4 (THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control)) reports "Darkness detected".
Lighting switch (S1) in "AUTO" position.
- On model 447.8
"Outer OFF delay function" and "Locator lighting (AFB)" function activated on radio (audio/COMAND) (N87/6).
The humidity sensor/light sensor/rain sensor (with code HH9 (air conditioning system semi-automatically controlled, TEMPMATIC)) or the rain and light sensor with additional functions (with code HH4 (THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control)) reports "Darkness detected".
Lighting switch (S1/2) in "AUTO" position.

The instrument cluster (IC) control unit sends the status of the "Outer OFF delay function" and "Locator lighting (AFB)" function via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit (N10/1).
The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit directly reads in the status of the illumination switch.
Model 447.6/7 with code JF1 (rain sensor) and with code LP1 (interior and surround lighting for panel van), model 447.7 with code JF1 (rain sensor) and with code LP2 (interior and surround lighting for crewbus)
The ambient brightness is detected by the light sensor or humidity sensor/light sensor/rain sensor. It sends the information about the ambient brightness (dusk/dawn level) via the roof LIN (LIN B13) to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
Model 447.6/7 with code HH4 (THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control) and with code LP1 (interior and surround lighting for panel van), model 447.7 with code HH4 (THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control) and with code LP2 (interior and surround lighting for crewbus)
The ambient brightness is sensed by the rain/light sensor with additional functions. It sends the information about the ambient brightness (dusk/dawn level) via the roof LIN to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
Model 447.8
The radio (audio/COMAND) sends the status of the "Outer OFF delay function" and "Locator lighting (AFB)" function via the user interface CAN (CAN HMI), central gateway (N93/4), chassis CAN (CAN E), electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73), and interior CAN (CAN B) to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
The ambient brightness is detected by the humidity sensor/light sensor/rain sensor or the rain and light sensor with additional functions. It sends the information about the ambient brightness (dusk/dawn level) via the roof LIN to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit directly reads in the status of the illumination switch.
Headlamp switch-off delay (SWA), general:
The SWA is used for leaving and finding the vehicle safely in darkness.
Model 447.6/7
The duration of the SWA can be adjusted in the instrument cluster (IC) control unit from 0 to 60 seconds in 15-second increments.
Model 447.8
The duration of the SWA can be adjusted on the radio (audio/COMAND) from 0 to 60 seconds in 15-second increments.
The following light functions are activated here:
- Standing/parking lights actuation
Detailed information on the standing/parking lights actuation is available in the separate document "Standing/parking lights actuation, function".
During the SWA, the light sources are actuated with greater intensity and therefore emit more light than during standing/parking lights actuation.

The SWA function is comprised of the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for SWA (outer OFF delay function)
- Function sequence for locator lighting (AFB)
The headlamp switch-off delay and locator lighting functions run in parallel if necessary. An active headlamp switch-off delay (SWA) function is not terminated by a requested AFB function and vice versa.
Function sequence for SWA (outer OFF delay function)
The SWA function is activated for the configured period of time after the engine has been switched off (change in circuit status from "Circuit 15 ON" to "Circuit 15 R ON"). The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73) sends the circuit status via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. At the same time, the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the request to switch on the Standing/parking lights actuation via interior CAN to the left front door control unit (N69/3) and the right front door control unit (N69/4).
The left front door control unit actuates the left exit and warning lamp (with CODE LB9 (Illuminated exits)) directly.
The right front door control unit actuates the right exit and warning lamp (with CODE LB9 (Illuminated exits)) directly.
The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit directly actuates the tailgate surround lighting and the tailgate surround lighting 1 (with code LC8 (tailgate surround lighting)).
On model 447.8
On vehicles with CODE LC5 (Ambient illumination in the outside mirrors), the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:
- Left front door control unit
This directly actuates the left outside mirror ambient illumination.
- Right front door control unit
This directly actuates the right outside mirror ambient illumination.
In addition, the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit directly actuates the tailgate surround lighting and tailgate surround lighting 1.
The function starts again by opening a vehicle door. The liftgate or the rear-end doors are evaluated as if they were vehicle doors. If all vehicle doors are closed again, the function is restarted.
The status of the front doors is sent by the left front door control unit and the right front door control unit via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
The active SWA is terminated by switching on circuit 15 or by triggering an alarm of the anti-theft alarm system (with code FZ5 (anti-theft alarm system) or with code FY1 (Anti-Theft Protection Package)).
Function sequence for locator lighting (AFB)
When unlocking the vehicle, the surround lighting is switched on for a period of approx. 40 seconds (time for the automatic relocking).
The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit sends the status of the central locking via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. At the same time, the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the left front door control unit and the right front door control unit.
The left front door control unit actuates the left exit and warning lamp (with CODE LB9 (Illuminated exits)) directly.
The right front door control unit actuates the right exit and warning lamp (with CODE LB9 (Illuminated exits)) directly.
The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit directly actuates the tailgate surround lighting and the tailgate surround lighting 1 (with code LC8 (tailgate surround lighting)).
On model 447.8
The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation.
On vehicles with CODE LC5 (Ambient illumination in the outside mirrors), the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:
