Function requirements, general 

• No overvoltage or undervoltage
• "Circuit 15 ON"

The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73) transmits the circuit 15 status over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) (N10/1).

Backup light actuation, general 

The backup light actuation enables the traffic lane to the rear of the vehicle to be illuminated when backing up.

Function sequence for backup light actuation 

When the reverse gear is engaged, the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit activates the backup light actuation.

• On vehicles with code G42 (7G-TRONIC PLUS), the fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11), or on vehicles with code G43 (9G-TRONIC), the fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/15) sends the signal "reverse gear engaged" via control unit CDI (N3/33) (model 447 with engine 651) or control unit ME (N3/34) (model 447 with engine 274) or control unit CDI (N3/36) (model 447.6/7 with engine 622.9) or control unit CDI (N3/40) (model 447 with engine 654) or control unit CDI (N3/50) (model 447.6/7 with engine 622.8), drive CAN (CAN C), powertrain control unit (N127), chassis CAN (CAN E), electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit and interior CAN at the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
• On vehicles with code GC9 (6-speed manual transmission, FSG 350) or on vehicles with code GE1 (6-speed manual transmission TSG 380), the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit reads in the "reverse gear engaged" signal directly from the reversing lamp switch (S16/2).

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit transmits the reversing light actuation directly to the:

• left rear lamp unit (E3), which then directly actuates the left reversing light (E3e3).
• right rear lamp unit (E4), which then directly actuates the right reversing light (E4e3).

On vehicles with code LG4 (LED tail lights, brake lights and turn signal lights): 

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit transmits the reversing light actuation directly to the:

• Left reversing light (E3/1e3).
• Right reversing light (E4/1e3).

On vehicles with code Q22 (Trailer hitch with non-removable ball head) or with code Q50 (Trailer hitch with removable ball head): 

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit transmits the reversing light request via interior CAN to the trailer recognition (AAG) control unit (N28/1). This actuates the reversing lights at the trailer via the 13-pin trailer socket (X58). The trailer recognition control unit sends the status via interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.

The CDI control unit or the ME control unit also transmits the gear display actuation:

• On MODEL 447.6/7 via chassis CAN to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1).
• On model 447.8 via drive train CAN, powertrain control unit, chassis CAN, central gateway (N93/4) and user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit.
