Function requirements, general
- No overvoltage or undervoltage
- "Circuit 15 ON"
- Low beam "ON"
The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73) sends the circuit status of circuit 15 via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit (N10/1).
The lighting switch (S1) (model 447.6/7, model 448.7) or the lighting switch (S1/2) (model 447.8, model 448.8) sends the "Low beam" status to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
Also active during front fog light actuation is the low beam actuation, which is described in the separate document "Driving lights actuation function".
MODEL 447 with CODE LG2 (LED Intelligent Light System)
The fog light function is generated by the left front LED lamp unit (E1/1) and the right front LED lamp unit (E2/1). No separate front fog lamps are installed.
Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation on vehicles with code L16 (halogen front fog lamps)
Front fog lamps in combination with the low beams result in a wider illumination in the close range.
Pressing the front fog lamp button (S1s11) sends a "Front fog lamp" request to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit. It then directly actuates the left front fog lamp (E5/1) and the right front fog lamp (E5/2).
The active front fog lamp actuation is indicated visually to the driver. The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the "Front fog lamp indicator lamp" request to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1). This then directly actuates the front fog lamp indicator lamp (A1/1e57).
Rear fog light actuation function sequence
The rear fog light actuation enables the rear area of the vehicle to be identified in poor weather conditions.
By pressing the rear fog light button (S1s10) (model 447.6/7, model 448.7) or the rear fog light button (S1/2s10) (model 447.8, model 448.8), a "Rear fog light" request is sent to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
Vehicles without code LG2 (LED Intelligent Light System): The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the "Rear fog light" actuation directly to the rear left lamp unit (E3) and to the rear right lamp unit (E4). The left rear fog light (E3e5) and the right rear fog light (E4e5) are then actuated directly.
Vehicles with code LG2 (LED Intelligent Light System): The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the "Rear fog light" actuation directly to the rear left LED lamp unit (E3/1) and to the rear right LED lamp unit (E4/1).
The left rear fog light (E3/1e5) and the right rear fog light (E4/1e5) are then actuated directly.
Vehicles with code Q22 (trailer coupling with non-removable ball head) or with code Q50 (trailer coupling with removable ball head): In addition, the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the "Rear fog light" request via the interior CAN to the trailer recognition control unit (AAG) (N28/1).
This actuates the corresponding rear fog light on the trailer, if present, via the 13-pin trailer socket (X58).
The rear fog light on the vehicle is not actuated during trailer operation. For this purpose, the trailer recognition control unit (AAG) sends the corresponding status with the information "Trailer recognition, status" to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit.
The active rear fog light actuation is indicated visually to the driver. The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the "Rear fog light indicator lamp" request to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit, which then directly actuates the rear fog light indicator lamp (A1/1e47).
