  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
  Risk of fire  due to ignition of R1234yf refrigerant on hot components. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with escaped R1234yf refrigerant and when working on pressurized parts. Risk of explosion  due to formation of ignitable refrigerant/air mixtures Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated rooms.
Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been evacuated.

3 Deactivate easy entry and exit feature. Model 205, 253 (except 253.388/389/988/989)
with code 275 (Driver's seat, electrically adjustable with memory function)
 
4 Turn steering wheel to center position (front wheels in straight-ahead position) and fix in place using holding device. NOTES Do not turn steering wheel with steering coupling removed.
Otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

8 Remove front wheels.   AR40.10-P-1102A
9 Remove engine compartment lining at front, center and rear.   AR61.20-P-1105LW
10 Secure radiator package (1) against falling down using tensioning strap (2). NOTES Do not tighten tensioning strap (2) too far.
Otherwise the components can be damaged.
 
11 Detach refrigerant line (18) from condenser (19), hang to one side towards inside and seal connections.    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Compressor oils (specification 362.1)   BB00.40-P-0362-01A
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace sealing rings and moisten with compressor oil.

12 Remove left and right screws (28), fold up front radiator mounts (29) and remove from struts (20). If the radiator package (1) is in the front installation position.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Make sure that the front radiator mounts (29) are correctly seated.
 
13 Remove front axle shafts. Model 205, 253 (except 253.388/389/988/989)
with transmission 725.0
with code M005 (4 MATIC)

17 Detach brackets of electrical wiring harnesses from spring links and axle carrier, and place to one side. Model 205

18 Remove torsion bar linkages from spring links. Model 205

19 Detach left and right line brackets of front axle RPM sensor from front axle carrier and hang to one side with electrical lines connected.   AR42.30-P-0712LW
20 Detach steering knuckles from upper transverse control arms and secure to strut rod with tensioning strap (25). Model 205 with transmission 716, 722 (except 722.96/97), 724, 725

NOTES The steering knuckles must not fold outwards after they are detached from the upper transverse control arms.
Otherwise ball joints may be damaged.
NOTES Counterhold the ball heads and do not use an impact wrench/driver.
Otherwise the ball heads or the steering knuckles will be damaged.
IMPORTANT Model 205, 253 (except 253.388/389/988/989) with transmission 725.0
Model 253 (except 253.388/389/988/989) with transmission 724.2

Installation:  Fasten the steering knuckles to the upper transverse control arms with cable ties only.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, steering knuckle to transverse control arm

21 Disconnect steering coupling.   AR46.10-P-8000LW
22 Disconnect electrical connectors (22, 23).    
23 Detach complete rack-and-pinion steering wiring harness (3) from rack-and-pinion steering (24) and front axle (4), and place to one side.    
24 Remove the compressor. Model 205

25 Remove screws (6) and remove left and right diagonal struts (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Mount, support (strut) *BA33.10-P-1002-01Q

28 Lift engine using engine support fixture until the guide pins of the engine mount fully extend out of the axle carrier.    
29 Position lifting platform (26) at front axle (4) and secure with tensioning strap (27).    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 03 62 00 Lifting platform   WS01.00-P-0091A
30 Detach engine compartment lining brackets (11).    
31 Remove screws (10) of front axle (4).

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, front axle carrier to longitudinal member *BA33.10-P-1001-01Q 
32 Loosen air duct segments (12) and fold inwards.    
33 Remove screws (13) of brackets (14).    
34 Slacken screws (15) of brackets (14).    
35 Lower front axle (4) slightly. NOTES Observe radiator package (1) when lowering.
Otherwise it may be damaged.
 
36 Mark struts (20) relative to front axle (4) using colored pencil.    
37 Detach low-temperature circuit circulation pump 1 with bracket from right rear radiator mount (21) and hang to one side with lines connected. If the radiator package (1) is in the rear installation position and low-temperature circuit circulation pump 1 is installed.  
38.1 Remove left and right screws (16). If the radiator package (1) is in the front installation position.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, strut (impact absorber) to front axle carrier

38.2 Remove left and right screws (16) and remove rear radiator mounts (21). If the radiator package (1) is in the rear installation position.
IMPORTANT Make sure that the decoupling elements (17) are seated correctly.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, strut (impact absorber) to front axle carrier

39 Push spring links downward and position suspension struts in front of spring links. NOTES Carefully position the suspension struts in front of the spring control arms.
Otherwise the suspension strut joints can be damaged.
 
40 Pull front axle (4) slightly to rear, turn brackets (14) to side and remove struts (20). IMPORTANT Note the previously made markings when inserting the struts (20).  
41 Fully lower front axle (4). NOTES Carefully lower front axle (4).
Otherwise adjacent components may be damaged.
 
42 Install in the reverse order.    
43 Perform chassis alignment.   AR40.20-P-0200LW
