Transmission Range (Tr) Switch Removal/Installation

CAUTION:
- Water or foreign objects entering the connector can cause a poor connection or corrosion. Be sure not to drop water or foreign objects on the connector when disconnecting it.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Remove the selector lever knob. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the shift panel component. (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the upper panel. (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the parking brake lever boot panel. (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the rear console. (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the front console panel. (See FRONT CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the front console component. (See FRONT CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the connector and wiring harness clip.
- Place a clean rag behind the engine so that the engine does not contact the rear housing when it is tilted.
- Remove the front crossmember under cover. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the control rod from the selector lever component. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the tunnel member.
- Disconnect the HO2S connector. (See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .)
- Disconnect the TWC from the exhaust manifold (WU-TWC). (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .)
- Suspend the TWC using a cable as shown in the illustration.
- Remove the power plant frame. (See POWER PLANT FRAME REMOVAL [M66M-D] .)
- Tilt the transmission while being careful not to allow parts on the back of the engine to contact the vehicle body.
- Remove the insulator.
- Disconnect the TR switch connector.
- Rotate the manual shaft to the N position.
- Secure the control rod component with an adjustable wrench as shown in the illustration.CAUTION:
- Do not use an impact wrench.
- When loosening the control rod nut, secure the control rod component without applying torque within the AT.
- Remove the control rod nut.
- Remove the washer and control rod component.
- Pry off the lock washer using a flathead screwdriver.
- Remove the nut and lock washer.
- Remove the TR switch.
- Rotate the manual shaft to the extension housing side fully and return two notches to set the N position.
- Install the TR switch and hand-tighten the new mounting bolt.
- Verify the TR switch reference line and the notch of the manual shaft are aligned.CAUTION:
- Improper adjustment of the TR switch will cause abnormal operation of the automatic transmission. Always adjust the TR switch correctly.
- Install the lock washer with the nut.
Tightening torque
5.9-7.8 N.m {61-79 kgf.cm, 53-69 in.lbf}
- Stake the lock washer using a flathead screwdriver.
- Tighten the TR switch mounting bolts.
Tightening torque
10-15 N.m {102-152 kgf.cm, 89-132 in.lbf}
- Inspect for continuity between TR switch terminals E and H.
- Install the control rod component and washer.
- Secure the control rod component with an adjustable wrench and tighten the control rod nut as shown in the illustration.CAUTION:
- Do not use an impact wrench.
- When tightening the control rod nut, secure the control rod component without applying torque within the AT.
Tightening torque
14-18 N.m {1.5-1.8 kgf.m, 11-13 ft.lbf}
- Shift the selector lever to the P position.
- Turn the manual shaft lever to the P position.
- Inspect TR switch continuity. (See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH INSPECTION .)
- Connect the TR switch connector.
- Install the insulator using the following procedure.
- Install the power plant frame. (See POWER PLANT FRAME INSTALLATION [M66M-D] .)
- Remove the tunnel member temporarily.
- Connect the TWC to the exhaust manifold (WU-TWC). (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .)
- Connect the HO2S connector. (See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0] .)
- Install the tunnel member.
- Connect the control rod from the selector lever component. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Install the front crossmember under cover. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Connect the connector and wiring harness clip.
- Install the front console component. (See FRONT CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Install the front console panel. (See FRONT CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Install the rear console. (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Install the parking brake lever boot panel. (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Install the upper panel. (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Install the shift panel component. (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Install the selector lever knob. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Inspect TR switch operation. (See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH INSPECTION .)
- Perform the "Initial Learning" (TR switch replacement). (See INITIAL LEARNING PROCEDURE .)
