Test B: Air Bag Warning Light Illuminates When Ignition Is Turned On & Remains Illuminated

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute to allow back-up power supply to deplete. Access SAS control module and check SAS control module harness connectors for proper connection. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If SAS control module connectors are properly connected, go to next step. If SAS control module connectors are not properly connected, reconnect connectors and go to step  6.
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect SAS control module connector. Check short bar in SAS control module connector terminals 2W and 2T for damage. If short bar is okay, go to next step. If short bar is damaged or bent, replace air bag wiring harness and go to step  6.
  3. Check short bar hook of SAS control module connector. If short bar hook is okay, go to next step. If short bar hook is damaged, replace SAS control module and go to step  6.
    CAUTION: Improper insertion of insulator in SAS control module harness connector (to disable short bar) can damage short bar. Improper inspection of SAS control module connection may result. Ensure insulator is carefully placed in SAS control module harness connector.
  4. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Insert an insulator between SAS control module harness connector terminals 2W and 2T to disable short bar. See Figure & Figure . Check continuity between ground and SAS control module connector terminal 2W. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace air bag wiring harness and go to step  6.
  5. Check continuity between instrument cluster component connector terminal 3R and terminals 3A and 3D. See Figure. If continuity exists between any specified terminals, replace instrument cluster and go to next step. If continuity does not exist between any specified terminals, replace SAS control module and go to next step. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, go to step  1 and repeat inspection.

7  Passenger-side air bag module circuit
11 (1) Driver-side seat belt pretensioner circuit
12 (1) Passenger-side seat belt pretensioner circuit
22 (1) Left-side air bag sensor
25 (1) Left-side air bag sensor circuit
26 (1) Left-side air bag module
32 (1) Right-side air bag sensor
35 (1) Right-side air bag sensor circuit
37 (1) Right-side air bag module
91 (1) AIR BAG warning light circuit
(1) DTC first digit is indicated by counting air bag warning light longer flashes and continuing to count short flashes indicating second digit.
