DTC 7: Passenger-Side Air Bag Module

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute to allow back-up power supply to deplete. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector. See Figure. Inspect air bag module short bar separator. If air bag module short bar separator is okay, and if DTC 7 was retrieved as a present malfunction DTC, go to next step. If air bag module short bar separator is okay, and if DTC 7 was retrieved as a past malfunction DTC, go to step 3. If air bag module short bar separator is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness and go to step 4.
- Connect leads of Fuel and Temperature Checker (49 0839 285 or 49 N088 0A0) or 2 ohm resistor to passenger-side air bag module connector terminals "A" (Yellow/Green wire) and "B" (Yellow wire). See Fig 1. If using fuel and temperature checker, set resistance to 2 ohms. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If DTC 7 is indicated, go to next step. If DTC 7 is not indicated, replace passenger-side air bag module. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect all SAS control module connectors. See SAS CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check air bag wiring harness between SAS control module connector terminal 2Y and passenger-side air bag module connector terminal "A" (Yellow/Green wire), and between SAS control module connector terminal 2AB and passenger-side air bag module connector terminal "B" (Yellow wire) for short to ground, short to power supply or an open circuit. See Figure & Fig 1 . If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness between passenger-side air bag module and SAS control module and go to next step. If wiring harness is okay, and DTC 7 was retrieved as a present malfunction DTC, replace SAS control module and go to the next step. If wiring harness is okay, and DTC 7 was retrieved as a past malfunction DTC, replace passenger-side air bag module and go to next step. - Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
