DTC 11: Driver-Side Seat Belt PRETENSIONER Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute to allow back-up power supply to deplete. Remove right-side lower B-pillar trim panel. Disconnect driver-side pretensioner electrical connector. Inspect driver-side pretensioner electrical connector for cracking or chipping. If driver-side pretensioner electrical connector is damaged, replace air bag system wiring harness. If driver-side pretensioner electrical connector is okay and DTC 11 was retrieved as a present malfunction DTC, go to next step. If driver-side pretensioner electrical connector is okay and DTC 11 was retrieved as a past malfunction DTC, go to step  3.
  2. Connect leads of Fuel and Temperature Checker (49 0839 285 or 49 N088 0A0) or 2 ohm resistor to harness side of driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector terminals "A" and "B". See Fig 1. If using fuel and temperature checker, set resistance to 2 ohms. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Retrieve air bag system DTCs. If DTC 11 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 11 is not retrieved, replace driver-side seat belt pretensioner. See SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access SAS control module and disconnect all harness connectors. Inspect air bag system wiring harness between SAS control module terminal 3A and driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector terminal "A" (Blue wire), and between SAS control module terminal 3C and driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector terminal "B" (White wire) for open, short to ground and short to battery. See Figure & Fig 1 . If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag system wiring harness between SAS control module and driver-side seat belt pretensioner. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 11 was retrieved as a present malfunction DTC, replace SAS control module. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 11 was retrieved as a past malfunction DTC, replace driver-side seat belt pretensioner. See SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
