REMOVAL (To 8/2009): Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    w/ Navigation System for HDD: 

    After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disable the auto tilt away function by changing the customize parameter. Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS .
      NOTE:

      Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto tilt away function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing this operation.

      HINT: 

      Performing the above operation disables the auto tilt away function when the engine switch is turned off.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
    3. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION .

  4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  6. REMOVE STEERING PAD  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  8. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 10
  9. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 11
  10. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12
  11. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob sub-assembly counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  12. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Move the shift lever to N.

    2. Pull the upper console panel sub-assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the 4 claws and 4 clips.
    3. w/o Seat Heater System:
      1. Disconnect the connector from the console box hole cover.
    4. w/ Seat Heater System:

      1. Disengage the 4 claws.
      2. Disconnect the connector and remove the seat heater switch assembly.
    5. Pull the upper console panel sub-assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the 3 claws and 3 clips.

    6. Disconnect each connector.
    7. Disengage the clamp and remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.
  13. REMOVE CONSOLE CUP HOLDER BOX SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 5 screws and console cup holder box sub-assembly.

  14. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CUP HOLDER (for TMMC Made) 
    1. Remove the console box cup holder from the console cup holder box sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.

  15. REMOVE NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX DUCT  See step  3
  16. REMOVE CONSOLE REAR END PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  See step  4
  17. REMOVE MULTI-MEDIA INTERFACE ECU ASSEMBLY (w/ USB Audio System)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
  18. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY  See step  6
  19. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  See step  3
  20. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  See step  4
  21. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    2. Disengage the claw and 2 guides as shown in the illustration.

    3. Disconnect each connector.
    4. Disengage each clamp and remove the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.
  22. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL GARNISH LH 
    1. Using molding remover B, disengage the 6 clips and remove the instrument panel garnish LH as shown in the illustration.

  23. REMOVE NO. 1 SWITCH HOLE BASE 
    1. Push the No. 1 switch hole base in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the 4 claws and 2 guides.

    2. Disconnect each connector and remove the No. 1 switch hole base.
  24. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and open the cover as shown in the illustration.

    2. Remove the 2 screws.

    3. Disengage the 8 clips and 2 guides.
    4. Disconnect each connector and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly.
  25. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL CUP HOLDER 
    1. Open the cup holder.

    2. Disengage the 2 claws as shown in the illustration.
      NOTE:

      Be careful not to break the claws. If any of them breaks, replace the instrument panel cup holder with a new one.

    3. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the instrument panel cup holder outer case.

    4. Remove the 4 screws and the instrument panel cup holder.

  26. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 9
  27. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL HOLE COVER 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 1 instrument panel hole cover.

      *1 Protective Tape

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  28. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL HOLE COVER 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure for the No. 2 instrument panel hole cover and No. 1 instrument panel hole cover.

  29. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL 
    1. Remove the 2 clips.

    2. Remove the 2 screws <H> and the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel.
  30. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    2. Disengage each connector and remove the combination meter assembly.
  31. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL 
    1. Apply protective tape to the areas shown in the illustration.

    2. Insert molding remover B and D as shown in the illustration.
    3. Pull down molding remover B in direction (1). With molding remover B being pulled down, pull down molding remover D in direction (2) to disengage the clip and guide.
    4. Apply protective tape to the areas shown in the illustration.

    5. Insert molding remover B and D as shown in the illustration.
    6. Pull down molding remover B in direction (1). With molding remover B being pulled down, pull down molding remover D in direction (2) to disengage the clip.
    7. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel as shown in the illustration.

  32. REMOVE ACCESSORY METER ASSEMBLY (w/o Navigation System)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  33. REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY ASSEMBLY (w/ Navigation System)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
  34. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL 
    1. Pull the instrument panel finish panel in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the claw, 2 clips and 2 guides, and remove the instrument panel finish panel.

  35. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL 
    1. Pull the lower instrument panel finish panel in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the 7 clips and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.

  36. REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY WITH REGISTER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 10

    1. Remove the 5 screws.

    2. Disengage the 2 clamps.

    3. Remove the 3 clips.
    4. Disengage the 3 guides and remove the console box as shown in the illustration.
  38. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side See step  3.

  39. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT:

  40. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 4 claws and 2 guides as shown in the illustration.

    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the No. 2 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.
  41. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL GARNISH RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  42. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 10
  43. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 5 screws.

    3. Disconnect each connector and remove the glove compartment door assembly.
  44. REMOVE REMOTE ENGINE STARTER ECU (w/ Remote Engine Starter System)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12
  45. REMOVE GLASS BREAKAGE SENSOR ECU (w/ Glass Breakage Sensor)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12

  51. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure for the No. 2 instrument panel register assembly and No. 1 instrument panel register assembly.

  52. REMOVE NO. 1 SPEAKER OPENING COVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using molding remover A, disengage the 10 claws and 4 clips, and remove the No. 1 speaker opening cover assembly.

  53. REMOVE FRONT NO. 4 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
  54. REMOVE NO. 1 DEFROSTER NOZZLE GARNISH 
    1. Using molding remover B, disengage the 11 clips.

      HINT: 

      Apply protective tape to the areas where the molding remover B is to be inserted.

    2. Disengage the 7 claws.

    4. Disconnect the connector and remove the automatic light control sensor.
    5. Remove the No. 1 defroster nozzle garnish.
  55. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY

  56. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT 
    1. Remove the screw and the No. 1 console box duct.

  57. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
  58. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect each connector.
    2. Disengage each clamp.
    3. Disengage the 2 claws and disconnect the room temperature sensor.

    4. Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts.
    5. Remove the 6 bolts and nut.
    6. Remove the 2 clips.
    7. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Do not damage the instrument panel safety pad assembly.
      • Do not allow the wire harnesses to interfere with the surrounding parts.

    1. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the 5 No. 3 instrument panel stays.
