Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  5. Remove the right engine mount isolator. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, RIGHT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  6. Remove the oil filter and drain the engine oil. Refer to ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE  .
  7. Drain the engine coolant system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING THE COOLING SYSTEM - 1.3L .
  8. Remove the clean air hose. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  9. Remove the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  10. Remove the oil pan and oil pump pick-up tube. Refer to PICK-UP, OIL PUMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  11. Remove the cylinder head cover. Refer to COVER(S), CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  12. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, BELT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  13. Remove the vibration damper. Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  14. Remove the water pump. Refer to PUMP, WATER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  15. Remove the (Special Tool No. 2064000090, Locking, Pulley) tool from the timing cover.

  16. Remove the bolts (1a) and reposition the coolant pump inlet connector (1b).

  17. Remove the bolts (1a) and reposition the pipe protection duct (1b).

  18. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1a) from the engine oil pump displacement control solenoid (1b).

  19. Remove and discard the lower bolts (1a) from the timing cover (1b).

  20. Remove the bolt (1a) from the side reinforcement bracket (1b).

  21. Remove the retaining studs (1a) and reposition both right and left side linings (1b).

  22. Position the 2000040436 crossmember (1a) and support the engine crankcase (1b) appropriately.

  23. Remove the bolts (1a) and remove the right engine mount insulator (1b).

  24. Remove the bolt (1) from the intake manifold.

  25. Remove and discard the upper bolts (1a) from the timing cover (1b).
  26. Cut the sealant bead with a suitable tool and remove the timing cover (1b).

  27. Remove sealant residues (1) and check the integrity of the timing cover locating dowels.

INSTALLATION

  1. Install a NEW  gasket (1a) on the crankcase (1b).

  2. Install a NEW  gasket (1) on the timing cover.

  3. Clean the timing cover, engine block and cylinder head sealing surfaces with isopropyl alcohol in preparation for sealant application.
    CAUTION:

    Engine assembly requires the use of a unique sealant that is compatible with engine oil. Using a sealant other than Mopar® Threebond Engine RTV Sealant may result in engine fluid leakage.

    CAUTION:

    Following the application of Mopar® Threebond Engine RTV Sealant to the gasket surfaces, the components must be assembled within 10 minutes and the attaching fasteners must be tightened to specification within 45 minutes. Prolonged exposure to the air prior to assembly may result in engine fluid leakage.

  4. Apply a bead of Mopar® Threebond Engine RTV Sealant to the area shown in illustration (1).

  5. Install the (Special Tool No. 2031600091, Pin, Centering) (1) in the locations shown on the cylinder head.

  6. Install the timing cover (1).
  7. Install NEW  M6 (2a) 1-12 and M10 (2b) 13-16 bolts finger tight.
  8. Tighten the M6 bolts (2a) 1-12 to the initial in the sequence shown. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  9. Tighten the M10 bolts (2b) 13-16 to the initial in the sequence shown. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  10. Tighten the M10 bolts (2b) 13-16 to the final in the sequence shown. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  11. Tighten the M6 bolts (2a) 1-12 to the final in the sequence shown. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  12. Remove the (Special Tool No. 2031600091, Pin, Centering) from the cylinder head.
  13. Install and securely tighten the intake manifold bolt.

  14. Install the right engine mount isolator (1a).
  15. Tighten the upper frame rail bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  16. Tighten the lower frame rail bolts (1c) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  17. Tighten the timing cover bolts (1d) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  18. Remove the 2000040436 crossmember and install both right and left side linings with the retaining studs.
  19. Install and securely tighten the side reinforcement bracket bolt.
  20. Connect the wire harness connector to the engine oil pump displacement control solenoid.
  21. Install the pipe protection duct and securely tighten the bolts.
  22. Install the coolant pump inlet connector and securely tighten the bolts.
  23. Install the water pump. Refer to PUMP, WATER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  24. Install the vibration damper. Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  25. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, BELT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  26. Install the cylinder head cover. Refer to COVER(S), CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  27. Install the oil pump pick-up tube and oil pan. Refer to PICK-UP, OIL PUMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  28. Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  29. Install the clean air hose. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  30. Fill the engine coolant system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING THE COOLING SYSTEM - 1.3L .
  31. Install the oil filter and fill the engine crankcase with the proper oil to the correct level. Refer to ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE  .
  32. Install the right engine mount isolator. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, RIGHT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  33. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  34. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  35. Connect the negative battery cable.
  36. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
