Removal And Installation

CAUTION:

Do not rotate the crankshaft using the damper bolt. The bolt has left-hand threads and can be inadvertently loosened resulting in loss of camshaft timing. Only rotate the damper itself in a clockwise direction (as viewed from the front).

REMOVAL 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to PUMP, VACUUM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .

  6. Remove the lower gearbox bolts (1a) and remove the dust shield (1b).

  7. Using the (Special Tool No. 2069100090, Holder, Front Damper 3 Pin), rotate the crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from the front) and install the (Special Tool No. 2063500090, Locking, Camshaft) timing tool (1a) on the vacuum pump mounting surface while positioning the pin (1b) in the camshaft hole (1c) and securely tighten the bolts.

  8. Remove the bolt (1a) and move the support bracket (1b) with the pipes out of the way.

  9. Disengage the clip (1a) from the frame rail (1b) and move the pipe (1c) aside.

  10. Install the (Special Tool No. 2063600090, Pin, Flywheel Locking) timing tool through the crankcase and into the flexplate.

    NOTE:

    DO NOT  remove the timing tools until after the damper bolt has been reinstalled and tightened to specification.

  11. Install the (Special Tool No. 2064000090, Locking, Pulley) tool (1a) as shown in illustration and securely tighten the bolts (1b). Push the pin (1c) into the damper hole to prevent the damper from rotating on the crankshaft while removing the damper bolt.
  12. NOTE:

    The damper bolt is a left-hand thread.

  13. Remove and discard the damper bolt (1d).

  14. Remove the damper (1) from the crankshaft.

INSTALLATION 

  1. Install the vibration damper on the crankshaft and push the pin into the damper hole to prevent the damper from rotating on the crankshaft while tightening the damper bolt.
    NOTE:

    The damper bolt is a left-hand thread.

  2. Install the NEW  damper bolt and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Remove the (Special Tool No. 2064000090, Locking, Pulley), (Special Tool No. 2063600090, Pin, Flywheel Locking) and (Special Tool No. 2063500090, Locking, Camshaft) timing tools.
  4. NOTE:

    Do not rotate the crankshaft using the damper bolt, the bolt has left-hand threads and can be inadvertently loosened resulting in loss of camshaft timing. Only rotate the damper itself in a clockwise direction (as viewed from the front).

  5. Using the (Special Tool No. 2069100090, Holder, Front Damper 3 Pin), rotate the crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from the front) through two complete revolutions and refit the timing tools to verify correct camshaft timing.
  6. Position the pipe and engage the clip to the frame rail.
  7. Position the support bracket with the pipes and securely tighten the bolt.

  8. Install the dust shield (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) securing the gearbox to the engine to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  9. Install the vacuum pump. Refer to PUMP, VACUUM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  10. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  11. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.
  13. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
