Panel, Instrument: Removal

  1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Evacuate the air conditioning system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Disconnect the heater core hoses (2) and (3) to the HVAC housing. Refer to CORE, HEATER, REMOVAL .
  4. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened heater core tubes to prevent coolant spillage during housing removal.
  5. Remove fastener (4) and disconnect the air conditioning refrigerant lines (1) and (5) from the HVAC housing (2).
  6. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant lines fitting.
  7. Remove the front doors (1). Refer to DOOR, REMOVAL .
  8. Remove the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL .
  9. Remove the shifter assembly. Refer to SHIFTER, FLOOR CONSOLE, REMOVAL .

  10. Remove the bracket (2) and remove the HVAC floor ducts (1). Refer to DUCT, FLOOR DISTRIBUTION, REMOVAL .

  11. Using a (special tool #C-4755, Trim Stick) or equivalent, separate the four clips (1) and remove the HVAC control head (2).
  12. Disconnect the control head electrical connector.

  13. Remove the center bezel (2). Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CENTER, REMOVAL .

  14. Remove the bolts and remove the radio support bracket.

  15. Using a trim stick or equivalent, remove the end caps (2) from the instrument panel (1). Refer to CAP, INSTRUMENT PANEL END, REMOVAL .

  16. Using a trim stick or equivalent, release the push pin fasteners (1) and the retaining tabs (2) and remove closeout panel (3) located between the A-pillar trim and the front scuff plate.

  17. Using a trim stick or equivalent, disengage the retaining clips securing the front door sill scuff panel (1) to the door sill and lower B-pillar.
  18. Remove the front door sill scuff panel (1).

  20. Remove defroster grill. Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, REMOVAL .

  21. Remove the a-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVAL .
  22. Unclip the harness and connector (2) from the dash side (1).
  23. Disconnect the A-pillar wiring connector (1).
  24. Remove lower dash silencer panels. Refer to PANEL, SILENCER, LOWER, REMOVAL .

  25. Remove steering column opening closeout. Refer to PANEL, SILENCER, LOWER, REMOVAL .
  26. Remove the steering column gap hider (2) fasteners (3).
  27. Remove the steering column (1). Refer to COLUMN, REMOVAL .

  28. Remove the lower instrument panel to floor pan bracket fasteners (1).
  29. Unfasten the ground wiring to the floor (3).
  30. Repeat on the opposite side.
  31. With the use of pliers or equivalent disconnect the air conditioning drain tube clamp (4).
  32. Remove the drain tube from the floor valve.
  33. Remove the glove box. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .

  34. From under the passenger side of dash, disconnect the body to dash wiring harnesses (1).
  35. Disconnect the coaxial connectors (2), if so equipped.

  36. Place tape along the top of the instrument panel (1) and onto the outside of the windshield (3) as indicated and mark with felt tip pen or equivalent (2), to aid during the installation.

  37. Place tape along the door sill flanges (1) as indicated and mark with felt tip pen or equivalent (2), to aid during the installation.

  38. Using a pocket ruler (4) or equivalent, measure and record the distance (3) from the door sill flanges (1) to the instrument panel support beam (2) on both sides of the instrument panel to aid installation.

  39. Remove the wiper arms. Refer to ARM, WIPER, REMOVAL .
  40. Remove the cowl vent panel. Refer to COVER, COWL PANEL, REMOVAL .
  41. Remove the wiper linkage. Refer to LINKAGE, WIPER ARM, REMOVAL .
  42. Remove the dash carrier to the lower plenum fasteners (1).

    NOTE:

    Use a 9 mm deep well socket with a full cut to remove the dash carrier side bolts (1). The carrier bolts design will not allow a partial cut socket to access.

    NOTE:

    Removal of the dash will require the use of three people. One on each end and one in the middle.

  43. Place assistant at the center of the dash to help support and assist with removal.
  44. With the use of a small flat bladed tool or equivalent, remove the fastener covers located on the hinge pillar (1) of both sides of the vehicle.
  45. Remove the four dash carrier bolts (2), two on each side.
  46. Remove the dash from vehicle.
