Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Left Hand Drive)  or Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Right Hand Drive) .
  3. Remove the left and right windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  4. Remove the left and right front door sill plates. Refer to Front Side Door Sill Plate Replacement .
  5. Remove the left and right lower cowl panels. Refer to Cowl Side Trim Panel Replacement .
  6. Remove the instrument panel center trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement (Left Hand Drive)  or Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement (Right Hand Drive) .
  7. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  8. Remove the left air outlet. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Replacement - Left Side .
  9. Remove the right air outlet. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Replacement - Right Side .
  10. Remove the knee bolster bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Left Hand Drive)  or Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Right Hand Drive) .
  11. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC) trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement (Left Hand Drive)  or Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement (Right Hand Drive) .
  12. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Left Hand Drive) .
  13. Remove the headlamp switch and retain for transfer. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement .
  14. Remove the ambient light sensor. Refer to Ambient Light Sensor Replacement .

  16. Remove the 3 upper I/P bolt covers.

  18. Remove the 3 upper I/P nuts retaining the I/P to the bulkhead.

  20. Remove the screw located behind the IPC.

  22. Remove the 2 screws retaining the I/P compartment door latch striker.
  23. Remove the 3 lower I/P retaining screws located near the I/P storage compartment.
  24. Remove the digital radio receiver. Refer to Digital Radio Receiver Replacement .

  26. Remove the 2 screws located in the IPM opening.

  28. Remove the screw from the I/P end cap.

  30. Reach through the I/P storage compartment (1) opening and remove the screw retaining the I/P carrier to the I/P structure.

  32. Grasp the lower center edge of the I/P and pull rearward in order to release the 2 retaining clips.

  34. Grasp the lower right edge of the I/P and pull rearward in order to release the retaining clip.
  35. Pull the I/P partially away from the I/P structure.
  36. With automatic transmission, move the gear selector to low range and remove the shift knob. Refer to Floor Shift Control Knob Replacement .
  37. With manual transmission, place the gear selector in 2nd or 4th gear and remove the shift knob.
  38. With the aid of an assistant, carefully remove the I/P from the vehicle.
  39. Remove the HVAC distributor duct from the instrument panel assembly. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Left Hand Drive) or Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Right Hand Drive) .
  40. Transfer the wiring harness to the new instrument panel.
  41. Transfer the inflatable restraint module and bracket to the new instrument panel.
  42. Disconnect the keyless entry antenna from the body control module (BCM).
  43. Transfer the keyless entry antenna to the new I/P.
