Dashboard Removal/Installation
Special Tools Required: KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014
NOTE:
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
NOTE:
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard, body, and other related parts.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the preset buttons.
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
- Remove these items:
- Driver's dashboard lower cover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Driver's dashboard under cover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Passenger's dashboard lower cover (see PASSENGER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Glove box (see GLOVE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Consoles, front and rear (see CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Shift lever trim (see SHIFT LEVER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Center panel (see DASHBOARD CENTER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Kick panels, both sides (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREA )
- A-pillar trim, both sides (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREA )
- Steering column (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
- From the center panel opening, remove the screws, then remove the center bracket (A).
- Remove the shift lever (see GEARSHIFT MECHANISM REPLACEMENT ).
- Open the passenger's door, and gently pull out along the edge of the dashboard side cover (A) to release the hooks (B), then release the upper hook (C), to remove the cover.
Driver's side
- From under the dash, disconnect the interior wire harness connector (A), driver's door wire harness connector (B), side turn signal light connector (C), roof antenna connector (D), antenna lead (E), clutch switch connectors (F), and brake switch connector (G), and disconnect the floor wire harness connectors (H) and engine compartment wire harness connectors (I) from the under-dash fuse/relay box (J).

Center
- Disconnect the floor wire harness connectors (A) and combination subharness connector (B).
Passenger's side
- From under the dash, disconnect the dashboard wire harness connectors (A), EPS subharness connectors (B), engine compartment wire harness connectors (C), A/C subharness connectors (D), passenger's door wire harness connectors (E), and side turn signal light connector (F).
- Detach all of the harness and connector clips.
- Open the driver's door, and remove the caps (A), then remove the bolts (B, C, D), and lift up on the dashboard (E) to release it from the guide pins (F,G) on the body.
- Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening.
- Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Apply liquid thread lock to the dashboard center frame mounting bolts (C) before reinstallation.
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harness and control cables are not pinched.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the antenna lead is connected properly.
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES ).
- Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.
- Reset the clock.
