Removal Procedure

  1. Remove Ignition Coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement
  2. Remove Vacuum Pump. Refer to Vacuum Pump Replacement
  3. Remove Turbocharger Heat Shield. Refer to Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement 
    4. NOTE:

    The air cleaner outlet duct is equipped with a tamper proof connection that should NOT be removed unless the PCV tube or air cleaner outlet duct is being replaced. Loosening the air cleaner outlet duct clamps will allow the duct to be disconnected from the air cleaner assembly and turbocharger for repositioning without removing the tamper proof connection.

  4. Loosen Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LCV)Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LTG)

    NOTE:

    The PCV hose and fitting assembly (2) is a permanent connection. Reinstall these components as an assembly unless new components are being used.

    NOTE:

    Always ensure the PCV hose fitting O-Ring (3) seal is free of cuts or abrasions each time the fitting is attached to the turbocharger.

  5. Remove Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose Fitting Bolt (1)
  6. Disconnect Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose Fitting (2)
  7. Remove Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Replacement (LTG)
  8. Remove Oil Level Indicator
  9. Remove Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe. Refer to Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LTG)
  10. Remove Camshaft Position Actuator Intake Solenoid Valve. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Intake Solenoid Valve Replacement
  11. Remove Camshaft Position Actuator Exhaust Solenoid Valve. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Exhaust Solenoid Valve Replacement
  12. Remove Camshaft Cover Heat Shield. Refer to Camshaft Cover Heat Shield Replacement (LCV) Camshaft Cover Heat Shield Replacement (LTG) 
  13. Remove Fuel Feed Pipe @ Fuel Pump. Refer to Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (LCV)Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (LTG)Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (Chassis Fuel Feed Pipe to High Pressure Fuel Pump)

    NOTE:

    Note the location of the four long camshaft cover bolts (2) for proper installation.

  14. Remove Camshaft Cover Bolts (1, 2)
    15. NOTE:

    If reinstalling the camshaft cover, remove the camshaft cover with the PCV tubes and the air cleaner outlet duct.

  15. Remove Camshaft Cover (3)

  16. Remove and DISCARD Camshaft Cover Gasket (1)
  17. If reinstalling the camshaft cover (2), clean and inspect as needed. Refer to Camshaft Cover Cleaning and Inspection (LCV)Camshaft Cover Cleaning and Inspection (LTG)
