  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The PCM monitors clutch applications. It sets a DTC if it detects a non-electrical shift solenoid or clutch fault. The customer may experience erratic vehicle operation while these DTCs are set.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    PCM P073D:00 Unable to Engage Neutral: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected the forward clutch, direct clutch and/or overdrive clutch is stuck on, causing a forward gear engagement when neutral is selected.
    PCM P0752:00 Shift Solenoid "A" Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a non-electrical fault causing the forward clutch to stay applied when SSA was de-energized. When this DTC sets, the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the forward clutch is off, which allows only 1st through 4th gears.
    PCM P0757:00 Shift Solenoid "B" Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a non-electrical fault causing the direct clutch to stay applied when SSB was energized. When this DTC sets, the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the direct clutch is off, which allows only reverse, 3rd and 5th gears.
    PCM P0762:00 Shift Solenoid "C" Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a non-electrical fault causing the intermediate clutch to stay applied when SSC was de-energized. When this DTC sets, the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the intermediate clutch is off, which allows only 2nd and 6th gears.
    PCM P0767:00 Shift Solenoid "D" Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a non-electrical fault causing the low/reverse clutch to stay applied when SSD was energized. When this DTC sets, the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the low/reverse clutch is off, which allows only reverse and 1st gear.
    PCM P0772:00 Shift Solenoid "E" Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a non-electrical fault causing the overdrive clutch to stay applied when SSE was energized. When this DTC sets, the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the overdrive clutch is off, which allows only 4th through 6th gears.
    PCM P07A9:00 Transmission Friction Element "D" Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a non-electrical fault causing the low/reverse clutch to stay applied when SSD was energized. When this DTC sets, the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the low/reverse clutch is off, which allows only reverse and 1st gear.
    PCM P177F:00 Unable To Fully Engage Neutral: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected the forward clutch, direct clutch and/or overdrive clutch is stuck on, causing a forward gear engagement when neutral is selected.
    PCM P2758:00 Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Stuck On: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a non-electrical fault causing the TCC to stay applied when the TCC solenoid was de-energized. When this DTC sets the vehicle may experience engine stalling, lugging and poor shift quality.

    Possible Sources 

    • Shift solenoid stuck on
    • Stuck control valve
    • Contamination in the main control valve body
    • Clutch damaged

  2. N1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the DTC from the PCM.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs) from the PCM.

    Is DTC P073D, P0752, P0757, P0762, P0767, P0772, P07A9, P177F and/or P2758 present in the PCM? 

    Yes  For DTC P073D and/or P177F, RESOLVE more specific clutch fault diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. If no other diagnostic trouble codes are present, REFER to: Diagnosis By Symptom . For DTC P0752, forward clutch always applied condition, REFER to: Forward Clutch Assembly . For DTC P0757, direct clutch always applied condition, REFER to: Direct Clutch Assembly . For DTC P0762, intermediate clutch always applied condition, REFER to: Intermediate Clutch Assembly . For DTC P0767 and/or P07A9, low/reverse clutch always applied condition, REFER to: Low/Reverse Clutch Assembly . For DTC P0772, overdrive clutch always applied condition, REFER to: Overdrive Clutch Assembly . For DTC P2758, TCC always applied condition, REFER to: Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) .
    No  The fault is not present at this time and may be intermittent.
