Direct Clutch Assembly

Direct Clutch 

For direct (3, 5, R) clutch operation, REFER to: Direct Clutch Assembly .

Direct Clutch 

Condition Possible Sources Action
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch does not apply SSB is mechanically stuck ON INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Shift Solenoids (SS) . CARRY OUT the Transmission Strategy Download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
Pump feed seals damaged/leaking REMOVE the main control valve body and INSPECT the pump feed seals for damage or leaks. INSTALL new seals. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch regulator valve is stuck OFF DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the direct clutch regulator valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch latch valve is stuck OFF DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the direct clutch latch valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
SF, PC2, PC2Z, R/D432, C35R hydraulic circuits blocked/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
Ball valve 1 check ball missing/damaged REMOVE the main control valve body, and INSPECT the check ball missing/damage. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
Center support, direct clutch drum DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the components for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: Transmission .
Direct clutch drum Teflon™ seals, direct clutch piston seals DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the seals for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: Transmission .
Direct clutch friction plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the friction and steel plates for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: Transmission .
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch always applied SSB is mechanically stuck OFF INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Shift Solenoids (SS) . CARRY OUT the Transmission Strategy Download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch regulator valve is stuck ON DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the direct clutch regulator valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch latch valve is stuck ON DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the direct clutch latch valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
Main control valve body cross leaking into PC2, PC2Z and/or C35R hydraulic circuits DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for cracks, warping, and damage. If damage is found, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
Center support, direct clutch drum DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT components for wear and damage. CLEAN and/or INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: Transmission .
Direct clutch piston return spring DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the direct clutch piston return spring for damage. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: Transmission .
Direct clutch friction plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the direct clutch friction and steel plates for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: Transmission .
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch delayed/soft/slipping apply Incorrect transmission strategy programmed into PCM. CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
Low line pressure CARRY OUT the line pressure test. REFER to: Special Testing Procedures .
SSB is mechanically sticking INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Shift Solenoids (SS) . CARRY OUT the Transmission Strategy Download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
