Torque Converter Clutch (TCC)

Front Pump Output Test 

The front pump output test can be used to detect a stuck or inoperative main control torque converter clutch apply regulator valve.

Torque Converter Clutch (TCC)

Condition Possible Sources Action
TCC does not apply TCC solenoid mechanically stuck OFF INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Shift Solenoids (SS) . CARRY OUT the Transmission Strategy Download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
Pump feed seals damaged or leaking REMOVE the main control valve body and INSPECT the pump feed seals for damage or leaks. INSTALL new seals. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
TCC apply regulator valve stuck OFF DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the TCC apply regulator valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
TCC charge control valve stuck DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the TCC charge control valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
NDX, SP, TCCZ, CAPY, CRLZ hydraulic circuit blocked or leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
TCC friction material worn or damaged INSTALL a new torque converter. REFER to: Transmission . REFER to: Transmission .
TCC always applied/stalls vehicle TCC solenoid mechanically stuck ON INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Shift Solenoids (SS) . CARRY OUT the Transmission Strategy Download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
TCC apply regulator valve stuck ON DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the TCC apply regulator valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
TCC charge control valve stuck DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the TCC charge control valve. If bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
Main control valve body cross leaking into TCCZ, CAPY hydraulic circuits DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for cracks, warping, and damage. If damage is found, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body .
TCC friction material worn or damaged INSTALL a new torque converter. REFER to: Transmission . REFER to: Transmission .
TCC cycles, shudders or chatters Incorrect Transmission Strategy programmed into PCM. CARRY OUT the Transmission Strategy Download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
TCC solenoid mechanically sticking INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Shift Solenoids (SS) . CARRY OUT the Transmission Strategy Download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
