Using Scan Tool
Instrument cluster is a Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC). HEC has self-diagnostic system which may store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if a problem exists in the system. HEC communicates with Generic Electronic Module (GEM) or Central Timer Module (CTM). GEM and CTM have self-diagnostic capabilities. DTCs stored in HEC, GEM and CTM may be obtained with New Generation Star (NGS) tester. HEC DTCs may also be displayed on the instrument cluster. See USING HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER (HEC) .
- For preliminary testing, see TROUBLE SHOOTING . If problem is not found, connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Perform data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If NGS tester displays CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair module concern. See appropriate
MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC), perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER (HEC) in SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for GEM/CTM, perform TEST B: NO COMMUNICATION WITH GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE/CENTRAL TIMER MODULE (GEM/CTM) in SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Erase continuous DTCs. Perform self-test for HEC and GEM/CTM. If DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, see HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER (HEC) DTC INDEX or GEM/CTM DTC INDEX
