Using Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC)
To enter HEC self-diagnostics, press instrument cluster SELECT/RESET button before turning ignition switch to RUN position. Within 5-8 seconds, odometer will display "tESt" to begin self-diagnostic mode. SELECT/RESET button must be released within 3 seconds of odometer displaying "tESt". Repeatedly press SELECT/RESET button through odometer displays until dtc is displayed. When odometer displays "dtc", press SELECT/RESET button again and any continuous DTCs will be displayed before odometer advances to next display. Other HEC diagnostic modes can be entered when self-diagnostic function is entered. See HEC SELF-DIAGNOSTIC MODES table.
HEC SELF-DIAGNOSTIC MODES
| Odometer Display |
Description |
| GAGE |
Activates sweep of all gauges, then displays present gauge values. Does ROM and EE checksum tests. If gauge sweep is inoperative, replace instrument cluster. |
| All Segments Illuminated |
Illuminates all odometer segments. If any odometer segment is inoperative, replace instrument cluster. |
| bulb |
Illuminates all micro-controlled lamps and LEDs. Replace bulb or LED as necessary. |
| r |
Returns to normal operation all micro-controlled lamps and LEDs and displays hexadecimal values for ROM. If alternating flashes of FAIL and ROM level are displayed, replace instrument cluster. |
| EE |
Hexadecimal value for EE level. If alternating flashes of FAIL and EE level are displayed, replace instrument cluster. |
| dt |
Displays hexadecimal coding of final manufacturing test date |
| dtc |
Displays continuous DTCs. Pressing SELECT/RESET button will display any DTCs stored before proceeding to next step. |
| enG |
English value speed input. |
| m |
Metric speed value input. |
| tAc |
Tachometer value input. |
| FUEL |
Fuel level input. Displays 255 for open circuit, about 232 for full stop, 215 for full tank, 178 for 3/4 full, 138 for 1/2 full, 93 for 1/4 full, 41 for empty mark, 0-20 circuit is shorted. Below 55 low fuel warning lamp should light. |
| OIL |
Oil pressure input. Normal input reading will be 000-169. Below 6 psi or inoperative switch will be greater than 169. |
| dEGC |
Last coolant temp input. About 49c, gauge should be at cold mark; 120c gauge should be at end of normal band. About 119c, temperature warning lamp should light. If -40c, input has not been received for more than 5 seconds. |
| br |
Brake fluid level input. |
| bAtt |
Battery voltage input. |
| Cr |
RUN/START sense input. Shows -h with ignition switch in START, -l with ignition switch in RUN position. |
| PA-PE7 |
Not used. |
| GAGE |
Repeats test display cycle. |
