Test H: Safety Belt Indicator Inoperative (Chime Okay)
NOTE:
After repair, clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
- If vehicle is equipped with Generic Electronic Module (GEM), go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with Central Timer Module (CTM), go to step 7.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe GEM PID SBLTLMP while toggling active command SBLTLAMP OFF and ON. If GEM PID SBLTLMP displays OFF- - -, ON- - -, go to step 11. If PID displays OFFO-G, go to next step. If PID displays OFF-B-, go to step 5.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect GEM/CTM 26-pin connector. Connect 5-amp fused jumper wire between GEM/CTM 26-pin connector terminal No. 12 and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. See Figure. If seat belt indicator illuminates, go to step 11. If seat belt indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin connector. Measure resistance of Dark Green/Light Green wire between instrument cluster 22-pin connector terminal No. 10 and GEM/CTM 26-pin connector terminal No. 12. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 12. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Dark Green/Light Green wire.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe GEM PID SBLTLMP while toggling active command SBLTLMP OFF and ON. If PID displays ON-B-, go to next step. If PID does not display as indicated, go to step 12.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect GEM/CTM 26-pin connector. Measure voltage between GEM/CTM 26-pin connector terminal No. 12 and ground. See Figure. If voltage is present, repair short to power in Dark Green/Light Green wire. If no voltage is present, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe CTM PID SBLTLMP while toggling active command SBLTLAMP OFF and ON. If PID displays OFF- - -, ON- - -, go to next step. If PID does not display OFF- - -, ON- - - go to step 11.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin and 20-pin connectors. Measure internal resistance of instrument cluster between 22-pin connector terminal No. 10 (component side) and 20-pin connector terminal No. 2 (component side). See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to step 12.
- Disconnect GEM/CTM 26-pin connector. Measure resistance of Dark Green/Light Green wire between instrument cluster 22-pin connector terminal No. 10 and GEM/CTM 26-pin connector terminal No. 12. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Dark Green/Light Green wire.
- Measure resistance between instrument cluster 22-pin connector terminal No. 10 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) and ground. If voltage is present, repair short to power in Dark Green/Light Green wire. If no voltage is present, go to next step.
- Disconnect all GEM/CTM connectors. Inspect connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all GEM/CTM connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace GEM/CTM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE/CENTRAL TIMER MODULE (GEM/CTM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors. Inspect connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
