Removal Procedure

- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
- Remove Battery Tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement
- Remove the air cleaner assembly (2). Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
- Remove Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block. Refer to Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement
- Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement
- Remove Exhaust Front Pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LH7)
- Remove Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube (2). Refer to Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube Replacement
- Remove Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Tube (2). Refer to Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Tube Replacement
- Disconnect Radiator Outlet Hose (2)@ Engine. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LH7)
- Disconnect Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LH7)
- Disconnect the electrical connector (1) at the engine oil heater (2).
- Disconnect Air Conditioning Evaporator Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose Replacement (LH7)
- Remove Fuel Return Front Pipe (1). Refer to Fuel Return Front Pipe Replacement
- Disconnect Fuel Feed Front Pipe (1) @ Fuel Feed Pipe. Refer to Fuel Feed Front Pipe Replacement
- Remove Power Brake Booster Vacuum Pipe (1). Refer to Power Brake Booster Vacuum Pipe Replacement (LH7)
- Disconnect Heater Inlet Hose (2) @ Heater Core. Refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LH7 Terrain)Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LH7 Equinox)
- Disconnect Heater Outlet Hose (2) @ Heater Core. Refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LH7)
- Remove Nitrogen Oxides Sensor - Position 1. Refer to Nitrogen Oxides Sensor Replacement - Position 1
- Remove Power Transfer Unit Case. Refer to Power Transfer Unit Case Replacement (MHG Transmission with LH7 Engine)
- Disconnect the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Equinox)Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Terrain)
- Remove Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft-Left Side. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side
- Remove Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft-Right Side. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (AWD)Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (M3U, MHG, MNH, MNK with FWD)
- Disconnect Stabilizer Shaft Link (Qty: 2) @ Stabilizer Shaft. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Equinox)Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Terrain)
- Disconnect Electrical Connectors (1) (Qty: 2) @ Power Steering Assist Motor (2)
- Disconnect Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Terminal (3) And Clamp Bolt (1) @ Transmission. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement
- Position aside Radiator Surge Tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement (LH7 FWD)Radiator Surge Tank Replacement (LH7 AWD)
- Remove Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe @ Transmission. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (MNH, MHG)
- Remove bolts necessary to remove the cradle (1) (2) and (3). Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (All Wheel Drive)
- Disconnect remaining electrical connections, hoses and reposition harnesses as needed.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Position an engine support table under the powertrain assembly.
- Position blocks of wood below the oil pan and transmission to stabilize the powertrain on the support table.
- With the table positioned, fully raise the table to contact with the powertrain assembly.
- Remove Engine Mount Bolts (2) (Qty: 2). Refer to Engine Mount Replacement
- Remove Transmission Mount Bolts (2) (Qty: 3). Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side
- Carefully lower the engine table and raise the body on the hoist until the engine/transaxle and frame are separated from the vehicle.
- Separate the engine from the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive with Diesel Engine, Equinox)Transmission Replacement (Front Wheel Drive with Diesel Engine)Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive with Diesel Engine, Terrain)
- Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
- If replacing the engine, transfer components as necessary.
CAUTION:
Do not disconnect the nitrogen oxide sensor from the nitrogen oxide sensor control module. A separation of the two components may cause a defect on the nitrogen oxide sensor control module. Always replace the nitrogen oxide sensor along with the nitrogen oxide sensor control module as an assembly.
NOTE:
Use a suitable device to hold the cradle while removing the fasteners.
NOTE:
Remove ONLY the body to frame bolts as the powertrain will be removed while still bolted to the frame.
NOTE:
A second technician is required.
NOTE:
Ensure the powertrain assembly is free from wiring, hoses and other engine compartment components.
