Replacing The Upper Part Of The Trunk Lid
Preliminary work
- Refer to REMOVE THE WIPER ARM OF THE REAR WIPER .
- Refer to REMOVING THE REAR EMBLEM .
- Refer to REMOVE THE TOP TRIM FOR THE REAR WINDOW FRAME .
- Refer to REMOVING THE TRIM FOR THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE REAR WINDOW FRAMES .
- Refer to REMOVE THE POWER TAILGATE SWITCH .
- Refer to REMOVING TRUNK COMPARTMENT LIGHT ON TRUNK LID .
- Refer to REMOVE TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .
- Refer to REMOVING TAIL LIGHT ON LEFT AND RIGHT OF TRUNK LID .

Prerequisite
New part is painted.
- Release the rubber grommets (1) from the trunk lid.
- Release the wiring harness at the marked locations (arrowed) on the trunk lid.
- Thread the wiring harness together with the rubber grommets (1) through the trunk lid.
- Release the rubber grommet (1) from the trunk lid.
- Release the wiring harness at the marked locations (arrowed), unthread it from the trunk lid and put it aside.
- Guide the buzzer (1) out and disconnect the respective plug connector.
- Release the wiring harness at the marked locations (arrows) from the trunk lid.
- Release the rubber grommet (2) unthread the wiring harness from the tailgate frame and put it aside.CAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid.
Injury hazard!- Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device.
NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to the spindle drive.
If the trunk lid is not opened completely, the spindle drive may be damaged.- Remove and install the spindle drive only when the Trunk lid is open to the maximum extent.
NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side. - Disassemble ball sockets.
Observe disassembly sequence:
- Push clamp (1) in the direction of the arrow with a screwdriver.
- Lift the ball socket (2) off of the ball hub.
- Push back the clamp (1).
- Loosen the spindle drive (3) at the trunk lid and swing it downwards.NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
Mechanical effects.
Paint damage.- Mask those working areas at risk with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
- Remove and install heavy or bulky components with the aid of another person/other persons.
- Slowly lower the trunk lid.
Make sure that the spindle driver is not damaged.
- Loosen the screws (1) and remove the trunk lid.NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
- Release the screws (1) and remove the stop pad (2).
- Reposition stop pad (2) on new part.
Tighten down screws (1).

Mechanical effects.
Paint damage.- Mask those working areas at risk with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
- Remove and install heavy or bulky components with the aid of another person/other persons.
- Position the new trunk lid on the trunk lid hinges.
Make sure that the spindle driver is not damaged.
- Tighten down screws (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

19 NmCAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid.

NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to the spindle drive.
If the trunk lid is not opened completely, the spindle drive may be damaged.- Remove and install the spindle drive only when the Trunk lid is open to the maximum extent.
NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side. - Open trunk lid.
- Position the spindle drive (1) with the ball socket (2) on the ball-headed pin and drive it home by force.
Check the clamp (3) is fitted correctly.
NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side. - Release the cover (1) at the clips (2) and remove it.NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
- Release both seal plugs (1) and remount them on the new trunk lid.NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
- Replace missing or damaged clips (2) and insert them into the cover (1).
Mount the cover (1) with the clips (2) on the new trunk lid.
- Remount expansion nuts (1).
- Remount the seal plug (2).
- Release the seal (1) at the clips (2) and remount it on the new part.
- Remount expansion nuts (1).
- Feed the wiring harness into the tailgate frame.
- Mount the rubber grommet (2).
Check the rubber grommet for the correct installation position, (watertightness).
- Connect the plug connector of the buzzer (1) and install the buzzer.
- Fasten vehicle wiring harness at marked locations (arrows).
- Thread the wiring harness into the trunk lid and secure it at the marked locations (arrowed),
- Mount the rubber grommet (1).
Check the rubber grommet for the correct installation position, (watertightness).
- Thread the wiring harness together with the rubber grommets (1) through the trunk lid.
- Fasten the wiring harness at the marked locations on the trunk lid (arrows).
- Mount the rubber grommets (1).
Check the rubber grommet for the correct installation position, (watertightness).
