Adjusting The Upper Part Of The Trunk Lid

Prerequisite 

• Lower section of tailgate is adjusted.

Preliminary work 

• Refer to REMOVE REAR SPOILER .
• Refer to REMOVING THE COVER ON THE STRIKER FOR THE TAILGATE LATCH .
• Refer to REMOVE STRIKER FOR TAILGATE LATCH .

• Unclip the cover of the water channel (1) in arrow direction.

• Slacken screw (1).

  Slide the wedge (2) in arrow direction towards the outer and tighten the screw (1) hand tight.

• If applicable, turn back the stop pad (3) several rotations, (turn in)

• Undo screws (1) until the trunk lid can be shifted.
• Adjust trunk lid.

  Check 

• Check the gap dimensions (arrowed) between trunk lid and adjacent components.

  Install a trunk spoiler if necessary.

  Result 

  » Gap dimensions do not correspond to the specifications.

  Measure

  • Adjust trunk lid.
• Tighten down screws (1).

  	tightening torque  19 Nm

• Install the striker (2).
• Hand-tighten the bolts (1).

  Adjusting the striker for the tailgate latch

  NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION 
  Notes for the gap dimensions of the body form the basis of this REP and it is mandatory to observe them.
  For additional information see BODY DIMENSIONS .
• Slacken the bolts (1) until the striker (2) is barely adjustable and self-centers itself.
• Close trunk lid.
• Open trunk lid.
• Tighten the screws (1).
  NOTE: When the trunk lid is closed, the striker must not tap or scrape against the tailgate lock. Watch out for scratches!
  TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

  	Tightening torque  19 Nm

• Close the trunk lid and check the gap dimension.

  If applicable, repeat the adjustment procedure.

• Pre-adjust the stop pad (1) by rotating it until the trunk lid is 0.5-1.0 mm recessed from the side panel.

  Check 

• Check the pre-adjustment between the trunk lid and side panel.

  Fold the yellow plastic adhesive tape (1) 1 x and place it on the stop pad.

  Close the trunk lid.

  The stop pad is correctly pre-adjusted if the plastic adhesive tape can be pulled out with little resistance.

  Result 

  » The plastic adhesive tape can be pulled out with no resistance or not at all,

  Measure

  • Pre-adjust the stop pad by turning it,
• Adjust stop pad. (final adjustment)

  Unscrew the stop pad 3/4 to 1 rotation.

  Unscrew the stop pad in accordance to the ride height undershot or ride height excess and from the closing sound of the trunk lid.

  Check 

• Check the difference in ride height between trunk lid and side panels.

  Result 

  » Gap dimensions do not correspond to the specifications,

  Measure

  • Adjust stop pad,
• Slacken screw (2).
• Adjust the wedge (1) by shifting it in arrow direction.

  Tighten down screw (2).

  	tightening torque  12 Nm

  Check 

• Check the setting of the wedge.

  Fold the yellow plastic adhesive tape (1) 1 x and place it on the wedge.

  Close the trunk lid.

  The wedge is correctly adjusted if the plastic adhesive tape can be pulled out in a "sucking" manner.

  Result 

  » The plastic adhesive tape can be pulled out with no resistance or not at all.

  Measure

  • Adjust the wedge by shifting it.
• Position the cover panel of the water channel (1) and clip in arrow direction.
