Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing And Installing

Removal

Proceed as follows:

-- Remove the engine, refer to ENGINE, REMOVAL .

-- Separate the engine and transmission. For vehicles with a manual transmission, refer to ENGINE AND MANUAL TRANSMISSION, SEPARATING . For vehicles with an automatic transmission, refer to ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, SEPARATING .

-- Secure the engine on the engine and transmission holder, refer to ENGINE, SECURING ON ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION HOLDER .

-- Remove the cylinder head cover, refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- On vehicle with manual transmission, remove dual mass flywheel, refer to DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- On a vehicle with automatic transmission, remove drive plate, refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the oil pan, refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove camshaft timing chain from camshafts, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL FROM CAMSHAFTS .

-- Remove the timing chain cover lower section, refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Mark camshaft timing chain running direction with arrows using paint -upper arrow- for reinstallation.

-- Remove mounting pin -arrow- and remove guide rail -1-.

-- Remove camshaft timing chain.

Installation

• Tightening specifications, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAINS OVERVIEW .

-- When reInstallation a used camshaft timing chain, note running direction marking -lower arrow-.

-- Place camshaft timing chain on chain sprocket.

-- Insert guide rail -1- and tighten mounting pins -arrows-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Install the timing chain cover lower section, refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install camshaft timing chain (adjusting timing), refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL FROM CAMSHAFTS .

-- Install the oil pan, refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- On vehicle with manual transmission, install dual mass flywheel, refer to DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- On a vehicle with automatic transmission, install drive plate, refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the cylinder head cover, refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the engine, refer to ENGINE, INSTALLATION .

-- Fill engine oil and check the oil level, refer to OIL LEVEL, CHECKING .
