Engine And Automatic Transmission, Separating

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

Proceed as follows:

NOTE:

When Installation, place all cable ties and protective boots in same locations.

-- Equip Scissor Lift Table VAS6131 with Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS6131/10 and additional parts from Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set VAS6131/12 and Scissor Lift Table - Q7 Set VAS6131/13 as follows:

NOTE:

The other attachments remain unchanged.

-- Disengage electrical connector at bracket -arrow-.

-- Remove the bolt -4-.

NOTE:

Ignore -items 1, 2 and 3-.

-- Secure Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 at front right on engine support with bolt M10x65.

-- Secure Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 on scissor lift table.

-- Attach mounting elements from Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set VAS6131/12 and Scissor Lift Table - Q7 Set VAS6131/13 at front under transmission ATF oil pan as shown in illustration.

-- Prepare mounting elements from Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS6131/10, Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set VAS6131/12 and Scissor Lift Table - Q7 Set VAS6131/13 for supporting drive shaft as shown in illustration.

-- Remove bolts -2- on main catalytic converter brackets.

Transmission carrier is shown installed in illustration.

-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove main catalytic converters.

-- Free up electrical wires to oxygen sensors.

-- Remove nuts -arrows- and remove pre-catalytic converters.

-- Remove bolts -arrows- at front drive shaft to transfer case connection.

-- Remove rear coolant pipe bolts -1 and 2-.

NOTE:

Ignore -arrows-.

All Vehicles: 

NOTE:

Place a cloth under separation point to catch escaping ATF.

Observe the rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions, refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .

-- Remove bolt -3- and disconnect ATF lines from transmission.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow-.

-- Leave ATF lines in installation location.

-- Remove B+ wire bolt -2- on bracket.

-- Remove nuts -1- and bracket.

-- Remove heat insulation sleeve from starter.

-- Remove protective caps.

-- Remove electrical wires from starter:

2 - Terminal 50

3 - B+ Terminal

-- Disconnect threaded connections -1- and -4- and remove starter.

-- To loosen torque converter bolts, counter hold crankshaft at vibration damper bolt.

-- Remove 3 torque converter bolts in opening for removed starter by rotating crankshaft 1 /3 further in direction of engine rotation.

-- Disconnect remaining engine to transmission connection bolts.

-- Loosen clamping bolts -1- on sides of Scissor Lift Table VAS6131 and then pull rear table plate with transmission toward rear -arrow- and press torque converter off drive plate through opening for removed starter.
