Camshaft Timing Chains Overview

- Control Housing
- Removing and Installing, refer to CAMSHAFTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Disassembling and Assembling, refer to Figure.
- Check screen for dirt, refer to Figure.
- Lightly lubricate contact surfaces of seals before Installation.
- Bolt
- 8 Nm
- Replace
- Camshaft Timing Chain
- before Removal, mark direction of rotation with paint, refer to Fig 2.
- Remove from the camshafts, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL FROM CAMSHAFTS .
- Removing and Installing, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Camshaft Adjuster, Exhaust Side
- Identification: "32A"
- Removing and Installing, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL FROM CAMSHAFTS .
- O-Ring
- Replace
- Oil Pump
- Removing and Installing, refer to OIL PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Bolt
- Tightening specification, refer to OIL PUMP OVERVIEW .
- Timing Chain Tensioning Rail
- remove to remove and install timing chain upper and lower covers.
- Camshaft Timing Chain Tensioner
- 50 Nm
- Removing and Installing, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL FROM CAMSHAFTS .
- Only rotate engine with chain tensioner installed.
- Seal
- Replace if damaged or leaking.
- Mounting Pin
- 18 Nm
- Without collar
- For tensioning rail -item 8-.
- Timing Mechanism Drive Chain Sprocket
- Removing and Installing, refer to TIMING MECHANISM DRIVE CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Camshaft Timing Chain Sprocket
- Removing and Installing, refer to TIMING MECHANISM DRIVE CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Bolt
- 60 Nm + 90° (1 /4 ) turn.
- Replace
- Use Counterhold - Vibration DamperT10069 on vibration damper to loosen and tighten.
- Chain Tensioner with Tensioning Rail
- For drive chain.
- Before installation release the locking device in the chain tensioner with a small screwdriver and press the tensioning plate against the chain tensioner.
- Only rotate engine with chain tensioner installed.
- Drive Chain Sprocket
- Integral part of crankshaft.
- Ground down tooth faces in "TDC" position toward bearing joint.
- Power Take-Off Drive Chain
- Before Removal, mark direction of rotation with paint, refer to Fig 2.
- Removing and Installing, refer to TIMING MECHANISM DRIVE CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

- Mounting Pin
- 10 Nm
- Without collar
- For guide rail -item 18-.
- Mounting Pin
- 10 Nm

- For guide rail -item 23-.
- Bolt
- 23 Nm

- 60 Nm + 90° (1 /4 ) turn.
- Replace
- To loosen and tighten, counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft wrench surface, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL FROM CAMSHAFTS .
- Contact surface of sensor wheel at screw head must be dry when Installation.

- High Pressure Pump Drive Chain Sprocket
- Different versions
- On the version for vehicles without the mechanical vacuum pump, lightly lubricate the needle bearing side before Installation.
- Camshaft Adjuster, Intake Side
- Identification: "24E"
- Removing and Installing, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL FROM CAMSHAFTS .
- Exhaust Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N318-
- For the exhaust camshaft.
- Mark the electrical connector before disconnecting.
- Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205-
- For the intake camshaft.
- Mark the electrical connector before disconnecting.
- Camshaft Timing Chain Guide Rail
- Clipped in at control housing.
-- Mark timing chain running direction with arrows using paint -arrows- for reinstallation.
CAUTION:
Risk of damaging timing chain.
- Do not mark chain with punch, notch or something similar.
