Wheel Bearing, Lifting To Curb Weight Position
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support: T10337
- Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931
The following information describes the removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle as an example.
Bolts and nuts on suspension components with bearings must not be tightened in curb weight position (unloaded condition).
Control arm wears prematurely, or causes noises.
- Axle components with bearings must be brought into the position they will be in when driving before they are tightened (curb weight position).
-- Refer to VEHICLE, SECURING TO HOIST LIFTING ARMS .
-- Remove the spring link stone chip protection. Refer to Spring Link Stone Chip Protection, Removing and Installing .
-- Attach the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 -B- using the Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support: T10337 -A- at the stabilizer bar -1-.
Conditions
- The mount of the Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support: T10337 -A- only contacts the stabilizer bar -1-.
There is a risk of an accident when lowering or lifting the vehicle when the support and lifting tool is underneath it.
- Do not lift or lower the vehicle when the support and lifting tool is underneath.
- Do not leave the support and lifting tool under the vehicle any longer than necessary.
-- Slightly push the stabilizer bar -1- upward.
-- Remove the nut -6- from the coupling rod -1-. At the same time, counterhold on the internal multi-point bolt on the coupling rod -1-.
-- Remove the coupling rod -1- from the stabilizer bar -5-.
-- Attach the Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support: T10337 -A- on the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 -B- at the spring link -1-.
There is a risk of an accident when lowering or lifting the vehicle when the support and lifting tool is underneath it.
- Do not lift or lower the vehicle when the support and lifting tool is underneath.
- Do not leave the support and lifting tool under the vehicle any longer than necessary.
-- Press the spring link with the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 upward.
-- Lift the wheel bearing housing -1- using the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 -A- until dimension -a- is reached. Refer to Check and Adjustment Values .
Conditions
- The respective bolts and nuts may only be tightened if the dimension specified in the table in between the center of the wheel hub and the lower edge of the wheel housing has been met.
-- Tighten the bolts and nuts.
-- Lower the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 .
