Electronic component locations: Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 1995 Volkswagen Jetta III, 1995 Volkswagen Golf III, 1995 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1994 Volkswagen Jetta III, and 1994 Volkswagen Golf III. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- is replaced, the system must be brought to basic setting. See Basic setting, initiating .
NOTE: The following list refers to Fig 1.
  1. - Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- 
  2. - Engine Control Module (ECM) 
  3. - Data Link Connector (DLC) 
  4. - Data Link Connector (DLC) 
  5. - Valve body 
    • Location. See Valve body .
    • Removing/installing. See VALVE BODY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • The Solenoid Valves -N88-, -N89-, -N90-, -N91-, -N92-, -N93-, -N94- and the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor -G93- are attached to the valve body
    • Components checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program
  6. - Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125- 
  7. - Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G68- 
  8. - Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -G69- 
    • Location. See Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -G69- .
    • Removing and installing:

      See appropriate article in Engine Performance.

    • Various types according to engine version
    • Signal checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program
    • Vehicles from 01.93 with 2.8 liter 6-cylinder engine: Throttle Position (TP) Sensor signal is directed to Transmission Control Module (TCM) via Engine Control Module (ECM); Signal can only be checked by reading measured value block. See Reading measured value block . If a malfunction is indicated then also carry out On Board Diagnostic (OBD) checks of Engine Control Module (ECM)
    • After repairs initiate basic settings. See BASIC SETTING, INITIATING .
  9. - Shiftlock Solenoid -N110- 
  10. - Cruise Control Switch -E45- 
  11. - Kick Down Switch -F8- 
  12. - Brake Light Switch -F 
  13. - Transmission Range (TR) Program Switch -E122- 
  14. - Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Relay -J226 -
