Removal [10/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. SECURE STEERING WHEEL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  3. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD RH 
  4. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 
  5. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD LH 
  6. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
  7. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH 
  8. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH 
  9. DRAIN HYBRID TRANSAXLE FLUID 

    See step  1

  10. DRAIN COOLANT (for Inverter) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  11. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM HEAD CAP 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  12. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  13. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  14. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  15. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  16. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  17. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - ] )

  18. REMOVE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - ] )

  19. REMOVE INVERTER TRAY BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 38

  20. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (TWC: Rear Catalyst) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  21. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18

  22. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 45

  23. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the 4 connectors, 3 clamps and wire harness from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and disconnect the 3 clamps and motor cable from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  24. DISCONNECT NO. 5 INVERTER COOLING HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 48

  25. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

  26. SEPARATE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

  31. INSTALL ENGINE SUPPORT BRIDGE 
    1. Disengage the 2 clamps.

    2. Remove the 2 hood support assemblies (Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - ] ).
    3. Install SST to the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

      WARNING:
      • Make sure the fuse shackle is on the chain block side and the shackle (A) is on the division bar side as shown in the illustration so that the fuse bolt is visible and can be checked for deformation easily.

      • Make sure the fuse bolt is not deformed.

      NOTE:
      • Prevent SST from contacting the vehicle body or windshield.
      • To prevent damage to the engine hood, place pieces of cloth between the engine hood and SST.
      • Lightly shake SST by hand to make sure it is securely installed while performing work.
      • Set the support shafts on level surfaces.
    4. Turn the threaded portion of each support shaft to adjust its height and make the sub beams parallel to the ground.

    5. Connect the chain to the division bar with the shackle at the position shown in the illustration.

    6. Connect the division bar and No. 1 engine hanger with the shackle.
    7. Connect the 1st link of the chain to the No. 2 engine hanger.
    8. Make sure the distance between the chain block assembly and suspension ring is 20 mm (0.787 in.) or more.

    9. Adjust the position of the chain block assembly so that the chain is perpendicular to the main beam and sub beams as shown in the illustration.

      To prevent the engine assembly with hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly from falling, make sure that the dimension (A) and dimension (B) are equal.

    10. Tighten the 6 wing bolts and 2 bolts.

      for Bolt 

      Torque: 30 N*m (306 kgf*cm, 22 ft.*lbf) 

    11. Move the chain block assembly approximately 50 mm (1.97 in.) as shown in the illustration.

    12. Tighten the chain block assembly until it cannot be moved any further by hand.

      WARNING:

      If the suspension ring contacts the roller of the chain block assembly, the chain block assembly may be damaged. Do not tighten the chain block assembly excessively.

      NOTE:
      • When suspending the engine assembly with hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly, do not tighten the chain block assembly more than 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf).
      • Do not shake the engine assembly with hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly excessively while it is being suspended.
  32. INSTALL BELT 
    1. Remove the bolt and nut.

    2. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the windshield washer jar assembly from the vehicle body.

      NOTE:

      Do not remove the bolt.

    3. Install SST to the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

    4. Using the ratchet buckle, tighten the belt until there is no slack.

      WARNING:

      To prevent the engine assembly with hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly from falling while servicing, do not remove SST (belt).

      HINT: 

      Tighten the nut by hand.

    2. Install SST (support bar) to the vehicle body with the 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 30 N*m (306 kgf*cm, 22 ft.*lbf) 

  36. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the bolt and front engine mounting insulator from the front engine mounting bracket.

  37. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR LH 
    1. Remove the nut and engine mounting insulator LH from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  38. SUPPORT ENGINE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Set an engine lifter.

      WARNING:

      To prevent the engine assembly with hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly from falling while servicing, do not remove SST.

      NOTE:

      Make sure that there is a clearance between the oil pan sub-assembly and engine lifter.

  39. REMOVE BELT 
    1. Remove SST from the vehicle body.

  40. REMOVE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a transmission jack attachment, set the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly on a transmission jack.
      NOTE:
      • Secure the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly to the transmission jack using a suitable adapter, such as a rope or attachment.
      • To prevent the motor water jacket cover assembly from deforming, do not place any attachments under the motor water jacket cover assembly of the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.
    2. Remove the 9 bolts and hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly from the engine assembly.

      NOTE:
      • To avoid damage to the 2 knock pins, do not pry between the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly and engine assembly.
      • To prevent the splines of the transmission input damper assembly from becoming misaligned, do not allow the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly to hit the transmission input damper assembly during hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly removal and installation.
      • Secure the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly to the transmission jack using a belt, etc. to prevent it from falling.
  41. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and front engine mounting bracket from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  42. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  43. REMOVE NO. 2 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET 
    1. Remove the bolt and No. 2 transmission control cable bracket from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  44. REMOVE NO. 3 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET 
    1. Remove the bolt and No. 3 transmission control cable bracket from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  45. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE COVER 
    1. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the automatic transmission case cover from the No. 3 automatic transmission case cover.

  46. REMOVE NO. 3 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, clip and No. 3 automatic transmission case cover from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  47. REMOVE HYBRID TRANSAXLE MASS DAMPER 
    1. Remove the hybrid transaxle mass damper and gasket from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  48. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and 2 wire harness clamp brackets from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.
