Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC 
    1. Check if the ABS DTC is output (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      Result: 

      ABS DTC

      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B
    1. B: REPAIR CIRCUIT ACCORDING TO OUTPUT CODE (SEE  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART   ) 
    2. A: Go to next step. 
  2. INSPECT CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if the CAN communication system DTC is output (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      Result: 

      CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B
    1. B: REPAIR CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    2. A: Go to next step. 
  3. INSPECT MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if the multiplex communication system DTC is output (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).

      Result: 

      MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B
    1. B: REPAIR MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    2. A: Go to next step. 
  4. INSPECT IF SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR IS SECURELY CONNECTED 
    1. Check the skid control ECU connector's connecting condition.

      OK: 

      The connector should be securely connected. 

    1. NG: CONNECT CONNECTOR TO ECU CORRECTLY 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  5. INSPECT BATTERY 
    1. Check the battery voltage.

      Standard: 

      Voltage: 11 to 14 V 

    1. NG: INSPECT CHARGING SYSTEM (SEE  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  6. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (IG1 TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select "DATA LIST" on the hand-held tester.

      DATA LIST: ABS 

      SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (IG1 TERMINAL VOLTAGE) (USING HAND-HELD TESTER)

      Item Measurement Item / Range (Display) Normal Condition
      IG VOLTAGE ECU power supply voltage / TOO LOW / NORMAL / TOO HIGH TOO HIGH: 14.0 or over
      IG VOLTAGE ECU power supply voltage / TOO LOW / NORMAL / TOO HIGH NORMAL: 9.5 V to 14.0 V
      IG VOLTAGE ECU power supply voltage / TOO LOW / NORMAL / TOO HIGH TOO LOW: Below 9.5 V
    4. Read the voltage condition output from the skid control ECU displayed on the hand-held tester.

      OK: 

      "NORMAL" is displayed. 

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER 

    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (IG1 TERMINAL VOLTAGE) (NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER)  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (IG1 TERMINAL VOLTAGE) (NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A40-18 (IG1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IG1 CIRCUIT) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  7. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (GND TERMINAL CONTINUITY) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (GND TERMINAL CONTINUITY)  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (GND TERMINAL CONTINUITY)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A40-4 (GND1) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
      A40-1 (GND2) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (GND CIRCUIT) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  8. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Remove the parking brake switch assy.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY  .

      Standard: 

      PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      (A22-1) - Ground part Free Below 1 Ω
      (A22-1) - Ground part Pushed in 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  9. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU TO PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY) (SEE  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector and the parking brake switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU TO PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU TO PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A40-14 (PKB) - A22-1 (PKB) Below 1 Ω
      A40-14 (PKB) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU TO PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  10. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Remove the reservoir tank cap.
    2. Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH ASSY  .

      Standard: 

      BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH ASSY

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      (A17-1) - (A17-2) Float UP 10 kΩ or higher (No Continuity)
      (A17-1) - (A17-2) Float DOWN Below 1 Ω (Continuity)

      HINT:

      If there is no problem after finishing the above check, adjust the brake fluid level to the MAX level.

    1. NG: REPLACE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR SUB-ASSY (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH) (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  11. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH TO COMBINATION METER ASSY) (SEE  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter assy connector and the brake fluid level warning switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH TO COMBINATION METER ASSY  .

      Standard: 

      BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH TO COMBINATION METER ASSY

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      (E3-11) - (A17-1) Below 1 Ω
      (E3-11) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      (A17-2) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH TO COMBINATION METER ASSY) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  12. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Check the combination meter assy (see HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING ).
    1. NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
    2. OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 

    HINT:

    If troubleshooting has been carried out according to the problem symptoms table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step before replacing the part (see PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ).
