Front Differential Assembly: Installation

Install the front differential assembly to the converter case.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the inside of the case (especially the mounting surface of the differential side retainers).

Install the bearing outer race.
Temporarily install the differential side retainers using the ST.
Preparation tool:

ST: WRENCH COMPL RETAINER (18658AA021)

Adjust the backlash of the front differential. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>FRONT DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY>ADJUSTMENT .
Inspect and adjust the tooth contact. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>DRIVE PINION SHAFT ASSEMBLY>ADJUSTMENT .
Using the ST, loosen the differential side retainer until the mounting groove of the O-ring appears, and then install the O-ring.
NOTE:
- When loosening the differential side retainer, record the number of the turns made.
- Perform this for both left and right differential side retainers.
- Use new O-rings.
- Apply the differential gear oil to O-ring.
Preparation tool:

ST: WRENCH COMPL RETAINER (18658AA021)
Using the ST, tighten the retainer to the position before it is loosened.

Install the oil seal to the differential side retainer. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>DIFFERENTIAL SIDE RETAINER OIL SEAL .
Install the lock plate.
Tightening torque:

25 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18.4 ft-lb)

Install the oil baffle.

Install the drive pinion shaft assembly. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>DRIVE PINION SHAFT ASSEMBLY>INSTALLATION .
Install the forward clutch assembly. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>FORWARD CLUTCH ASSEMBLY>INSTALLATION .
Install the reverse brake assembly. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>REVERSE BRAKE ASSEMBLY>INSTALLATION .
Install the primary pulley, secondary pulley and variator chain. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>PRIMARY PULLEY AND SECONDARY PULLEY>INSTALLATION .
Install the reduction drive gear. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>REDUCTION DRIVE GEAR>INSTALLATION .
Install the transmission case. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>TRANSMISSION CASE>INSTALLATION .
Install the oil strainer and oil pan. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>OIL PAN AND STRAINER>INSTALLATION .
Install the transmission control device. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>TRANSMISSION CONTROL DEVICE>INSTALLATION .
Install the reduction driven gear assembly. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>REDUCTION DRIVEN GEAR>INSTALLATION .
Install the parking pawl. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>PARKING PAWL>INSTALLATION .
Install the transfer driven gear assembly. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>TRANSFER DRIVEN GEAR>INSTALLATION .
Install the transfer clutch assembly. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>TRANSFER CLUTCH>INSTALLATION .
Install the extension case. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>EXTENSION CASE>INSTALLATION .
Install the inhibitor switch. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>INHIBITOR SWITCH>INSTALLATION .
