Engine Assembly: Removal

- Set the vehicle on a lift.
- Open the front hood fully and support with a front food stay.
- Collect the refrigerant from A/C system. < Ref. to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY PROCEDURE . >
- Release the fuel pressure.
- Remove the fuse of fuel pump from main fuse box.
- Start the engine, and run until stalls.
- After the engine stalls, crank it for 5 seconds more.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Remove the fuel filler cap.
- Remove the collector cover.
- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
- Remove the radiator from vehicle. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Radiator. >
- Remove the coolant filler tank. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Coolant Filler Tank. >
- Disconnect the A/C pressure hoses from A/C compressor.
- Repair the air intake system.
- Disconnect the following connectors and cables.
- Engine harness connectors
- Engine ground terminals
- Generator connector, terminal and A/C compressor connector
- Disconnect the following hoses.
- Brake booster vacuum hose
- Heater inlet and outlet hoses
- Remove the hose between intake manifold (A) and pressure regulator (B).
- Remove the power steering pump from bracket.
- Loosen the lock bolt and slider bolt, and remove the front side belt. < Ref. to , FRONT SIDE BELT , REMOVAL, V-belt. >
- Disconnect the power steering switch connector.
- Remove the power steering pump from engine.
- Place the power steering pump on the right side wheel apron.
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Remove the center exhaust pipe.

- Remove the nuts which hold lower side of the transmission to engine.
- Remove the nuts which install front cushion rubber onto front crossmember. >
- Separate the torque converter clutch from drive plate. (AT model)
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the service hole plug.
- Remove the bolts which hold torque converter clutch to drive plate.
- Remove other bolts while rotating the engine using a socket wrench.
- Remove the pitching stopper.
- Disconnect the fuel hose from fuel pipe.
- Disconnect the connector of fuel pipe by pushing the ST in the direction of arrow.
ST 42099AE000 CONNECTOR REMOVER
- Remove the clip, and then disconnect the evaporation hose from pipe.
CAUTION:- Collect fuel from the hose into container.
- Disconnect the hose with its end wrapped with cloth to prevent fuel from splashing.
- Disconnect the connector of fuel pipe by pushing the ST in the direction of arrow.
- Support the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.
- Support the transmission with a garage jack.CAUTION: Doing this is very important because the transmission lowers for its own weight. This work is also of great importance for facilitating reinstallation.CAUTION: Before moving the engine away from transmission, check to be sure no work has been overlooked.
- Separation of engine and transmission.
- Remove the starter. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Starter. >
- Install the ST to converter case. (AT model)
ST 498277200 STOPPER SET
- Remove the bolts which hold upper side of the transmission to engine.
- Remove the engine from vehicle.
- Slightly raise the engine.
- Raise the transmission with garage jack.
- Move the engine horizontally until main shaft is withdrawn from clutch cover.
- Slowly move the engine away from engine compartment.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage adjacent parts or body panels with crank pulley, oil level gauge, etc. - Remove the front cushion rubbers.
