Remove/install rear seat belts - AR91.40-P-0681EW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by release of spring in the automatic belt retractor. Never disassemble automatic belt retractors. AS91.00-Z-0002-01A

1 Remove trim from C-pillar   AR68.30-P-4490EW
2 Remove rear seat cushion On vehicles without code (224) Design individual rear seat system AR91.12-P-1020CW

3 Disconnect ground line of battery   AR54.10-P-0003EW
4 Remove screw/bolt (2) at belt end fitting of left or right seat belt (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.40-P-1014-01Q 
5 Remove screw/bolt (5) at belt guide (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.40-P-1012-01Q 
6 Remove screw/bolt (3) at automatic belt retractor (4) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.40-P-1007-01Q 
7 Disconnect left rear emergency tensioning retractor squib electrical connector (X28/47) of left rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/6) or right rear emergency tensioning retractor squib electrical connector (X28/48) of right rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/7) from automatic belt retractor (4)    
8 Move seat belt (1) to one side, release both front catch hooks (8) at bracket (7) using a small screwdriver and remove automatic belt retractor (4) NOTES The bracket (7) must not be damaged, as otherwise it must be replaced in combination with the automatic belt retractor (4).  
9 Unhook seat belt (1) from belt guide (6) and remove automatic belt retractor (4) SPECIAL TOOL
IMPORTANT If the automatic belt retractor (4) is replaced, the faulty automatic belt retractor (4) must be disposed of properly. See: ↓

10 Carefully press together catch hooks (arrows A) with needle nose pliers and remove bracket (7) NOTES The bracket (7) must not be damaged, as otherwise it must be replaced in combination with the automatic belt retractor (4).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT If the removed automatic belt retractor (4) with seat belt (1) is to be reinstalled, the bracket (7) must be clipped in at the automatic belt retractor (4) with the long pin (arrow B) pointing downwards.
 
11 Remove center seat belt in rear For vehicles with code (287) Through-loading feature AR91.40-P-0683CW 
For vehicles without code (287) Through-loading feature AR91.40-P-0683CWA 
12 Install in the reverse order    
13 Check supplemental restraint system (SRS) with STAR DIAGNOSIS After replacing the automatic belt retractors (4) with seat belt (1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory AD00.00-P-2000-04A
