Remove/install rear axle shaft flange and angular ball bearing - AR35.20-P-0130EW

REMOVING Remove     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on repair work on suspension components   AH00.00-P-0100-01A
1 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-0100EWS
2 Remove rear wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP40.10-P-4050EW
3 Detach twelve-point collar nut (1) from rear axle shaft (2)   AR35.30-P-0115-01TX 
4 Remove brake disk (3) MODEL 212 except AMG AR42.10-P-0250EW
Model 218 except AMG AR42.10-P-0220EL
MODEL 212, 218 with AMG AR42.10-P-0225CMG
5 Remove parking-brake brake shoes (8)   AR42.20-P-0530EW
6 Pull rear axle shaft flange (4) out of angular contact ball bearing (5)   AR35.20-P-0130-06SX

7 Detach link rod (9) from torsion bar (10)    
8 Using transmission jack and transmission platform, raise wheel carrier (7) until the rear axle shaft (2) is approximately horizontal    
9 Press the rear axle shaft (2) as far as possible out of the angular contact ball bearing (5)    
10 Detach angular contact ball bearing (5) from wheel carrier (7) IMPORTANT To remove the 4 bolts (6) push the rear axle shaft (2) slightly to the side.  
11 Clean water drain in wheel carrier (7)   AR35.20-P-0115-03CW 
12 Pull bearing inner race off the rear axle shaft flange (4)   AR35.20-P-0130-02TX

INSTALLING Install     
13 Mount angular contact ball bearing (5) on wheel carrier (7) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Position all bolts and tighten crosswise.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Wheel bearing to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1001-06D 
14 Press rear axle shaft (2) into angular contact ball bearing (5)    
15 Lower wheel carrier (7)    
16 Mount link rod (9) on stabilizer bar (10) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, link rod to stabilizer bar *BA32.20-P-1002-04N 
17 Pull rear axle shaft flange (4) into angular contact ball bearing (5)   AR35.20-P-0130-07SX

18 Install parking-brake brake shoes (8)   AR42.20-P-0530EW
19 Install brake disk (3) MODEL 212 except AMG AR42.10-P-0250EW
Model 218 except AMG AR42.10-P-0220EL
MODEL 212, 218 with AMG AR42.10-P-0250CMG
20 Mount and secure twelve-point collar nut (1) on rear axle shaft (2)   AR35.30-P-0115-01TX 
IMPORTANT Install new twelve-point collar nut (1).  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar nut, rear axle shaft to rear axle shaft flange *BA35.30-P-1001-01J 
21 Install rear wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP40.10-P-4050EW
