Removal and Installation: Removal

- Release fuel pressure. Refer to Work Procedure .
- Drain coolant. Refer to Changing Engine Coolant .
- Drain power steering fluid. Refer to Draining and Refilling .
- Remove the front under cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the fender protector (LH/RH). Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the engine room cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove front air duct, air duct hose and resonator assembly and air cleaner case assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the cowl top cover, cowl top extension, and cowl top brace (RH). Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove battery tray. Refer to Removal and Installation (Battery Tray) .
- Remove IPDM E/R. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the relay-fuse box cover and release the harness connectors.
- Remove the ground wire from the side of the transaxle assembly.
- Remove the ground wire from the front timing cover.
- Disconnect the coolant reservoir hose, then remove the coolant reservoir.
- Remove upper radiator hose. Refer to Exploded View .
- Disconnect CVT oil warmer hoses from CVT oil warmer.
- Disconnect fuel hose quick connection at vehicle piping side. Refer to Quick Connector .
- Disconnect EVAP vacuum hose.
- Disconnect heater hoses (engine side). Refer to Exploded View .
- Disconnect control cable at transaxle side. Refer to Exploded View .
- Remove lower radiator hose. Refer to Exploded View .
- Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold collector.
- Remove power steering oil pump. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the upper torque rod bolts in the reverse order as shown, below.
: Front
- Remove the upper torque rod.
- Remove engine mounting insulator (RH) bolts in reverse order as shown, below.

- Remove the engine mounting insulator (RH).
- Discharge and recover the R134a refrigerant. Refer to Recycle Refrigerant .
- Disconnect the A/C high side and low side hoses from the A/C compressor. Refer to Removal and Installation and Removal and Installation .
- Disconnect the stabilizer connecting rods at the strut (LH/RH). Refer to Exploded View .
- Remove the front drive shafts. Refer to Removal and Installation (LH) (LH) and Removal and Installation (RH) (RH).
- Remove cotter pin from outer socket stud.
- Loosen outer socket nut and separate outer socket from steering knuckle (RH/LH) using suitable tool.CAUTION: Leave outer socket nut half threaded on outer socket to prevent damage to threads and to prevent suitable tool from coming off suddenly.
- Remove outer socket nut and separate outer socket from steering knuckle (RH/LH). Refer to Exploded View .
- Remove front strut bolts at steering knuckle (RH/LH). Refer to Exploded View .
- Remove steering knuckle lower pinch bolt and nut and separate transverse link from steering knuckle (RH/LH).
- Remove steering knuckle (RH/LH).
- Remove rear torque rod bolts in reverse order as shown, below.
: Front
- Remove rear torque rod.
- Remove the front exhaust tube. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the steering gear heat shield.
- Remove the power steering line from the sub frame.
- Remove the steering gear bolts, then support the steering gear.
- Install engine slingers into front of cylinder head (LH) and rear of cylinder head (RH) then tighten to specified torque.

: 28 N.m (2.9 kg-m, 21 ft-lb)
- (B): cylinder head (LH)

- Remove rear cover plate.
- Remove the torque converter nuts.
- Disconnect vacuum hoses from engine mounting insulator (front) and engine mounting insulator (rear).
- Position a suitable support table under suspension member and engine assembly.
- For additional safety, secure the engine in position with suitable tool.
- Remove suspension member bolts. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Carefully lower the engine, transaxle assembly and suspension member using suitable tool, avoiding interference with the vehicle body.CAUTION:
- Before and during this procedure, always check if any harnesses are left connected.
- Avoid any damage to, or any oil/grease smearing or spills onto the engine mount insulators.
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the crankshaft position sensor (POS). Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Disconnect CVT input speed sensor, CVT primary speed sensor, CVT output speed sensor, and CVT unit harness connector. Refer to Exploded View , Exploded View and Exploded View .
- Separate the engine from the transaxle assembly.
- Remove engine mount insulator (front). Refer to Removal and Installation .CAUTION: To remove engine mount components, partially support weight of engine assembly with shop crane.
- Remove engine mount insulator (rear). Refer to Removal and Installation .CAUTION: To remove engine mount components, partially support weight of engine assembly with shop crane.
- Lift the engine from the suspension member.
- Remove engine mounting bracket (RH) bolts in reverse order as shown, below (if necessary).

- Remove engine mounting bracket (RH) (if necessary).
- Remove rear torque rod bracket bolts in reverse order as shown, below (if necessary).
: Front
- Remove rear torque rod bracket (if necessary).
- Remove engine mounting bracket (front) bolts in reverse order as shown, below (if necessary).
