Removal and Installation: Removal

- Disconnect the battery or batteries. Refer to Battery Disconnect
.CAUTION: Wait 10 minutes after disconnecting battery to service any fuel system components to allow time for system to release pressure.
- Remove the front wheel and tires. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove fender protector. Refer to Removal and Installation - Front Fender Protector .
- Remove the front undercover. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Changing Engine Coolant .
- Partially drain the A/T fluid. Refer to Changing the A/T Fluid (ATF) .
- Remove the transmission assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation (2WD models) or Removal and Installation (4WD models).
- Remove the hood. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the cowl top extension. Refer to Removal and Installation - Cowl Top Extension .
- Remove the air cleaner and air duct assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Disconnect the fuel supply and return lines from the fuel filter housing (Stage 2).CAUTION: Do not use any tools to disconnect the quick connector. This can result in damage to the quick disconnect fitting.
Directions for service of a one-button quick-disconnect connector (1):
- Disconnect the one-button quick-disconnect connector by pressing in the raised section of the clip on the connector.
- With the clip fully depressed, the fuel line can be removed from the mating female port.
- Connect the one-button quick-disconnect connector by pushing the connector into the female mating port until it clicks.
Directions for service of a two-button quick-disconnect connector (2):
- Disconnect the two-button quick-disconnect connector by pressing in the locking tangs on both sides of the connector.
- After pressing the opposing locking tangs, the quick-disconnect connector can be removed from the male fuel fitting.
- Connect the two-button quick-disconnect connector by pushing the quick-disconnect connector onto the male fuel fitting until it clicks.
- Disconnect the fuel supply line (2) and fuel return line (3) disconnects.CAUTION: Do not use any tools to disconnect the quick connector. This can result in damage to the quick disconnect fitting.

- Remove the starter. Refer to Removal and Installation - For CUMMINS 5.0L .
- Remove the harness clips (A) from the engine harness bracket (1).
- Remove bolts (B) and remove the engine harness bracket (1).
- Remove bolt (C) and remove the ground cable (D).
: Front
- Remove the "B" terminal nut (A) and remove the harness (B).
- Disconnect the harness connector (C).

: Front
- Recycle the refrigerant. Refer to Recycle Refrigerant .
- Remove the high-pressure and low-pressure flexible hoses from the compressor. Refer to Exploded View .
- Remove the low-pressure flexible hose. Refer to Removal and Installation - CUMMINS 5.0L .
- Drain the power steering fluid. Refer to Draining .
- Disconnect the power steering suction hose and power steering pressure hose from the power steering oil pump. Refer to Removal and Installation - Cummins 5.0 .
- Remove the reservoir tank. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the radiator. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Release the clamp (A) and remove the heater core hose (1) from the front cover (2).
- Disconnect the harness connectors from the glow control unit.Refer to Exploded View .
- Disconnect the harness connectors from the ECM. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the bolt (A) and remove the battery ground cable (1) from the engine block.

- Remove the exhaust downpipe. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Install Tool (A) onto the bank 1 (1) and bank 2 cylinder heads (2) and tighten bolts (B) to the specified torque.

- Remove the engine mount bracket (RH) (1) bolts.NOTE: Remove the harness clip (A) from the engine mount bracket (RH) (1) before lifting engine.
- Remove engine mount bracket (LH) bolt from the chassis.
- Lift engine using a hoist and remove engine from the vehicle.CAUTION: Before and during lifting, always check to see if any harnesses are left connected.NOTE: The engine is very heavy and the engine hoist must be capable of safely lifting the engine. Refer to GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the following parts from the engine after removal (if necessary).
- Generator and generator bracket. Refer to Removal and Installation: Cummins 5.0L .
- Compressor. Refer to Exploded View .
- Power steering oil pump. Refer to Exploded View .
- Engine mounts. Refer to Exploded View .
- Flexplate. Refer to Exploded View .
- Flywheel housing. Refer to Exploded View .
