Inspection Procedure 2: Cruise Control cannot be Set (No Response SET - Switch is Pressed): Diagnosis

CAUTION:
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect diagnostic trouble code may be stored. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines.
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the CAN bus lines is normal.
  1. STEP 1. Diagnose the CAN bus line. 
    CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
    1. Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III)  ."
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
    3. Diagnose the CAN bus line. (Refer to EXPLANATION ABOUT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III) CAN BUS DIAGNOSTICS )
    4. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

    Q: Is the check result satisfactory? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 2
    2. NO:  Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to CAN BUS DIAGNOSTIC TABLE ). Then go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Check the diagnostic trouble code is stored again. 

    Q: Is diagnostic trouble code stored? 

    1. YES:  Repair the adaptive cruise control system (ACC) (Refer to CHECK OF THE FREEZE FRAME DATA  ).
    2. NO:  Go to Step 3.
  3. STEP 3. Check the other system diagnostic trouble code. 

    Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), perform MFI system diagnostic trouble code (Refer to DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION ) < 2.4L ENGINE > or (Refer to DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION ) < 3.0L ENGINE >.

    Q: Is any diagnostic trouble code stored? 

    1. YES:  Repair the MFI system (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART < 2.4L ENGINE >, DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART < 3.0L ENGINE >).
    2. NO:  Go to Step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Check the other system diagnostic trouble code. 

    Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), perform ASC system diagnostic trouble code (Refer to DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION ).

    Q: Is the diagnostic trouble code stored? 

    1. YES:  Repair the ASC system (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART ).
    2. NO:  Go to Step 5.
  5. STEP 5. Check the other system diagnostic trouble code. 

    Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), perform transaxle system diagnostic trouble code (Refer to DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION < CVT >, DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION < A/T >).

    Q: Is any diagnostic trouble code stored? 

    1. YES:  Repair the transaxle system (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART < CVT >, DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART < A/T >).
    2. NO:  Go to Step 6.
  6. STEP 6. Check the other symptom. 

    The system should be turned on when the cruise control switch is operated.

    Q: Is the system turned on by operating the cruise control switch? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 7.
    2. NO:  Refer to "When the cruise control switch is operated, the system is not turned on." (Refer to INSPECTION PROCEDURE 7: WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH IS OPERATED, THE SYSTEM IS NOT TURNED ON )
  7. STEP 7. Check the data list. 

    Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), check the data list of cruise control system (Refer to DATA LIST REFERENCE TABLE  ).

    • Item 75: CANCEL switch
    • Item 92: SET - switch

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 9.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 8.
  8. STEP 8. Check the cruise control switch. 

    Refer to CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CHECK  .

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Replace the engine control module (Refer to ENGINE CONTROL MODULE < 2.4L ENGINE >, ENGINE CONTROL MODULE < 3.0L ENGINE >).
    2. NO:  Replace the cruise control switch (Refer to RADAR CALIBRATION  ).
  9. STEP 9. Check the symptom. 
    1. Drive the vehicle for approx. three minutes.

    Q: Can cruise control be set? 

    1. YES:  It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).
    2. NO:  Replace the ACC/FCM-ECU (Refer to ACC/FCM-ECU  ).
