Remove/Install Timing Case Cover - AR01.40-P-8000MFG

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Turn engine to top dead center position.   AR01.10-P-1000-01MFG 
    SPECIAL TOOL Counterholder Fig 2
2 Remove flywheel/drive plate.   AR03.30-P-8001MFG
3 Unscrew bolts (25) and remove support (26).    
4 Remove refrigerant compressor.   AR83.55-P-5310MFG
5 Remove end cover with front radial shaft sealing ring.   AR01.40-P-8922MFG 
6 Remove oil pan.   AR01.45-P-7500MFG 
7 Remove camshafts.   AR05.20-P-6992MFG
8 Remove rear radial shaft sealing at crankshaft.   AR03.20-P-3064MFG
9 Remove bolts (20) and remove brackets (21) from crankcase (19).    
10 Remove screw (22).    
11 Unscrew screw (23) and remove bracket (24) from timing case cover (18).    
12 Remove bolts (1 to 17) in reverse order to tightening procedure. Bolt plan for timing case cover AR01.40-P-8000-01MFG 
13 Remove timing case cover (18). NOTES During removal, do not drive in any tool between timing case cover (18) and crankcase (19). Sealing surfaces will otherwise be damaged.  
CLEAN Clean     
14 Clean sealing surfaces. NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper. The sealing surfaces will otherwise be damaged.
Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray

INSPECT Check     
15 Check surfaces for damage. If damage is found:

Replace timing case cover (18) and/or crankcase (19).
 
16 Check that fitting sleeves are correctly seated. If fitting sleeves are not correctly seated:

Establish correct seating, replace fitting sleeves if necessary.
 
17 Check cylinder head gasket for damage. If cylinder head gasket is not OK:

Replace cylinder head gasket.

INSTALLING Install     
18 Install timing case cover (18). Notes on sealant path for timing case cover IMPORTANT Fitting sleeves of crankcase (19) must engage in cutouts in timing case cover (18).
Apply sealant to sealing surface of timing case cover (18).
Observe notes on sealant path.

19 Screw in bolts (1 to 17) according to tightening procedure. Bolt plan for timing case cover AR01.40-P-8000-01MFG 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, timing case cover to crankcase *BA01.40-P-1001-01K 
20 Install rear radial shaft sealing at crankshaft.   AR03.20-P-3064MFG
21 Attach bracket (24) to timing case cover (18) and screw in screw (23). TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6x1 *BA00.10-P-1002-04A 
22 Screw in screw (22). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, coolant pump to timing case/crankcase/oil pan *BA20.10-P-1001-01AC 
23 Attach brackets (21) to crankcase (19) and screw in bolts (20). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, coolant line to coolant pipe/cylinder head/crankcase/coolant thermostat/coolant hose/timing case *BA20.10-P-1008-01AC 
24 Install camshafts.   AR05.20-P-6992MFG
25 Install oil pan.   AR01.45-P-7500MFG 
26 Install end cover with front radial shaft sealing ring.   AR01.40-P-8922MFG 
27 Install refrigerant compressor.   AR83.55-P-5310MFG
28 Install support (26) and tighten bolts (25). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, engine carrier to crankcase/oil pan *BA22.10-P-1001-02E 
29 Install flywheel/drive plate.   AR03.30-P-8001MFG
METRIC SCREWS/BOLTS AND NUTS AS PER MBN 10 105, 10 143
