Remove/Install Cylinder Head - AR01.30-P-5800MFG

WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Drain off coolant.   AR20.00-P-1142MFG
2 Remove right front fender liner.   AR88.10-P-1301MFA
3 Remove charge air pipe downstream of exhaust gas turbocharger.   AR09.41-P-1333MFG
4 Remove front pre-fuse box.   AR54.15-P-1330MFA
5 Remove battery carrier.   AR54.10-P-0028MFA
6 Remove low-temperature circuit coolant expansion reservoir.   AR20.30-P-4951MFG
7 Remove charge-air distributor.   AR09.41-P-8683MFG
8 Remove exhaust manifold.   AR14.10-P-3006MFG
9 Remove camshafts.   AR05.20-P-6992MFG
10 Remove the chain tensioner.   AR05.10-P-7800MFG
11 Remove intermediate gear of engine timing and secure timing chain such that it cannot drop.   AR05.10-P-7620-02MFG

12 Remove bearing pin (5). SPECIAL TOOL Puller Fig 1
13 Remove screw/bolts (3) and remove heat shield (4) from cylinder head (1).    
14 Remove screws (10).    
15 Remove bolts (2) in reverse order to tightening procedure. Tightening procedure for cylinder head bolts AR01.30-P-5800-01MFG 
16 Remove cylinder head (1). NOTES Do not drive in any tools between cylinder head (1) and crankcase (6) to remove.
Sealing surfaces will otherwise be damaged.
 
17 Remove screw/bolts (7) and remove heat shield (8) from cylinder head (1). When replacing the cylinder head (1).  
INSPECT Check     
18 Check cylinder head (1) for evenness and distortion. SPECIAL TOOL Straightedge
If distortion or unevenness is identified,

install new cylinder head (1).

19 Check sealing surfaces for damage. IMPORTANT Check relevant sealing surfaces of engine for unevenness, score marks, etc.
If unevenness, score marks, etc. are present:

Replace affected component.
 
20 Check fitting sleeves (9) are correctly seated. If problems are identified,

replace fitting sleeves (9).
 
INSTALLING Install     
21 Attach heat shield (8) and screw in bolts (7). When replacing the cylinder head (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6x1
*BA00.10-P-1002-04A 
22 Install cylinder head (1). IMPORTANT Replace cylinder head gasket.
Observe direction of installation for cylinder head gasket.
 
23 Screw in the screws (10). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, timing case cover to crankcase *BA01.40-P-1001-01K 
24 Screw in bolts (2) according to tightening procedure. Tightening procedure for cylinder head bolts AR01.30-P-5800-01MFG 
    IMPORTANT Observe tightening procedure.
IMPORTANT Replace screw/bolts (2).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, cylinder head to crankcase

25 Attach heat shield (4) to cylinder head (1) and screw in bolts (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6x1 *BA00.10-P-1002-04A 
26 Manually install bearing pin (5). IMPORTANT Replace bearing pin (5).  
27 Remove timing chain attachment and install intermediate gear of engine timing.   AR05.10-P-7620-02MFG

28 Install the chain tensioner.   AR05.10-P-7800MFG
29 Install camshafts.   AR05.20-P-6992MFG
30 Install exhaust manifold.   AR14.10-P-3006MFG
31 Install charge-air distributor.   AR09.41-P-8683MFG
32 Install low-temperature circuit coolant expansion reservoir.   AR20.30-P-4951MFG
33 Install battery carrier.   AR54.10-P-0028MFA
34 Install front pre-fuse box.   AR54.15-P-1330MFA
35 Install charge air pipe downstream of turbocharger. IMPORTANT Do not install upper engine cover until after the leak test. AR09.41-P-1333MFG
36 Install right front fender liner.   AR88.10-P-1301MFA
37 Fill in coolant. IMPORTANT Only install lower engine compartment paneling after leak test. AR20.00-P-1142MFG
38 Change engine oil and engine oil filter. Engine 139 in model 118, 177, 247  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 139 in model 118, 177 AP18.00-P-0101MFC
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
39 Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.    
40 Install upper engine cover.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP01.10-P-2405-01K
41 Install lower engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105MFR
